80 year-olds with pro-Palestine signs: arrested as terrorists. Greens planning to block a road, to highlight an existential crisis: sent down for years. Masked far-right thugs blocking roads and ports, using intimidation, obstruction & threatening behaviour: no arrests. The real two-tier policing.

Great night of @pintofscience.uk in Glasgow! Fantastic talk delivered by our GTOP member Dr. Arianna Passarotto on how urban noise and light influence owl facial disc structure and hunting behaviour - interesting to see how urbanisation may shape this functional trait of owls. #owls #ecology

1. Every year, large areas of gorse in Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks are deliberately burnt. It’s an appalling act of vandalism, killing wildlife, preventing regeneration of crucial habitats, releasing toxic smoke and carbon. This thread is about why it’s happening. Pic from this weekend. 1/7

Tawny Owl breeding season is underway 🦉A pair was recorded today at one of our nestboxes, with chicks present and plenty of prey delivered to the nest. Monitoring during this period allows us to assess breeding success, chick growth and parental investment. @ecarlonminoia.bsky.social #Ecology #Owls

Limited thermal tolerance in tropical insects and its genomic signature - Nature
A survey of tropical insect populations and thermal tolerance limits indicates that species from lowland areas have low capacity to survive increased temperatures, and that thermal tolerance is limited by fundamental properties of protein architecture.

In our new paper, we show that native trees, particularly oaks, are crucial to support blue tits reproduction, likely via increasing preferred insect prey. Very relevant for urban planning. Leveraging 9 years of data from our Glasgow Urban Gradient study system. Led by @clairebranston.bsky.social!
