If you control the attribution data set, you essentially control the ads space. In this clip, @dmarti.eurosky.social suggests that the privacy problems that the standards bodies sometimes focus on are different from the privacy concerns faced by actual people.

One surprisingly quiet project—if successful—would impact the entire ad-supported Internet. When a few large companies control the measurement of how effective advertising is, they're in a position to influence how all ad spending is allocated—which will mean more money for slop and disinformation.

What is the "Attribution Cartel"? Don Marti has been active within the W3C. Per Don, the Attribution Cartel is a group of companies and browsers attempting to determine who gets access to the critical data that helps advertisers determine whether their campaigns are working tinyurl.com/3vyr4abu

Once, technology solved problems. People liked having problems solved, so they liked technology. Tech execs started to think of that sentiment as their due. So when they stopped solving problems, and people stopped liking them, they became outraged. "How dare you not love whatever we give you?"

Because the core values of news professionals and Big Tech oligarchs are so different, you might expect news organizations to stand up against Big Tech when bills that would limit Big Tech harms are the subject of hearings at state legislatures. You’d be wrong. rjionline.org/news/big-tec...

Big Tech runs counter to journalism values. So why is the news industry helping tech take over?
News organizations have a natural ally in state privacy law debates — the consumer advocates who stand up for privacy and against deception.

I. Algorithm Filing and Security
Assessment
According to the GAI Measures and Algorithm Recommendation Provisions, Al services that directly provide the public within China with services having
"public opinion attributes or social mobilization capabilities" should file the algorithm mechanism with the Cyberspace Administration of China ("CAC").
Services that require filing include, but are not limited to, Al services with functions such as text generation, picture generation, voice generation, and video generation, such as social recommendation and news generation. Al services without public opinion attributes or social mobilization capabilities do not need to be filed. Al service enterprises that fail to complete the filing may face service suspension, removal from the platforms, fines, revocation of business license, and even criminal liability.
According to the Provisions, Al services must pass a security assessment before filing for a record. The purpose of the security assessment is to ensure that algorithms do not endanger national security, public safety, or infringe upon users' rights and interests.
Services that fail to pass the assessment will be prohibited from being launched. For those already launched, rectification or taking them offline is required.
