Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians" at Park Ave. Armory last night was transcendent. Three-and-a-half-hour show featuring the piece performed by three ensembles using the vast space in very different ways. Here three members of Alarm Will Sound share a marimba (one of dozens spread around the place).

Ralph Ave. The street had an almost mystical significance when I was a kid because it was the last stop on my local bus, far away in Canarsie. Many years later I learned that the orphanage my mother spent a few years in was also on Ralph Ave., but in a different part of Brooklyn.
