Monolingual English speakers who don’t even know when to use “less” and when to use “fewer” or mix up their/they’re/there making fun of people who speak English as a second, third, fourth language for their accent or grammar will never not be hilarious. The AI creates work that is completely not up to par and would be rejected by any basic quality control but it’s 15 minutes of a project manager typing prompts vs an hour of an editor working on it so I guess that’s “worth it”. And consumers don’t seem to care.

I’ve been calling out the various quality issues caused by the AI tools my job is using to replace us designers/editors in a feeble attempt to push back on their use of them but I fear as long as it’s cheaper than human labour they just literally don’t care.

The only people who actually like and push for AI are management types. By definition the ones who also don't do any of the actual work. If you go "AI first" your project managers are gonna live for it and everyone doing the actual work will hate every second working for you.

in 5 years when the AI bubble has completely burst and running an AI agent will cost 20x what it does now and still not be good enough to replace humans and they can't find good staff to turn their company around anymore after going all in on the AI hype they'll notice.

i think something corporate types won't understand for a long time is that in an environment where workers already didn't feel respected and valued, the push for AI just hypercharges that. you will never find employees who actually care about doing their job well again like this.

they finished the tickets that I put on stuck at work with AI without me, feels great to watch yourself be replaced live :) the AI work is incredibly shoddy and I would never hand in something of that quality but if the price is essentially nothing vs my rate I guess they are happy with shoddy.

The showrunners promised they would share how the show would have ended at some point once it's clear they can't make an actual S5 happen but they've been silent on it since and it's blatantly clear by now no S5 is happening (there's a movie reboot on its way).

We all know why Westworld was really cancelled in 2022 of course (core cast almost entirely female and/or BIPOC). At the exact same time HBO got rid of all their "diverse" programming.

Literally all they had to do was let them finish that last season. It was already set to be significantly cheaper (reduced cast, a lot of reuse of sets/locations...) and they had to pay the actors either way. But noooo they had to make The Idol and the Gossip Girl reboot instead.

Westworld S3 still a decent show, too, just disappointing after a fantastic first two seasons. If that was its own thing rather than a forced soft reboot derailing Westworld it would have also been well received.

Also season 2 was fantastic idk what y'all are on hating on season 2. Season 3 kinda sucked because HBO forced a soft reboot & a new male protagonist but then season 4 was really good again and set up a FANTASTIC concept for a 5th and final season (that HBO cancelled after already paying the actors)

HBO really fumbled the bag with Westworld. It was never a huge ratings success but I still hear that referenced casually ALL THE TIME (especially variations on "doesn't look like anything to me"). Moreso than just about any other show from the era including most more successful HBO shows.

Also every Instagram reel about AI coded Adobe killers or whatever is propaganda. There’s already free genuinely coded open source alternatives out there and there have been long before AI coding and they’re MUCH better. Use those.

Most apps nowadays have some AI code in them and that’s already concerning enough but at least that’s still from a team of people at a reputable company who understand how to review code. If some rando told Claude to write it in an evening DO NOT INSTALL IT.

Don’t install vibecoded slop on your devices. Not only could they have malicious code in them, but their devs wouldn’t even know or realize and it may get in there accidentally because THEY’RE NOT ACTUAL DEVS who can read and understand the code the AI writes them.
