Oh shit y'all, my kid is auditing PCC classes for a day, sitting in Microecon and he texts me this. The jig is up... 😂
This guy probably knows a decent amount
about economics, but | don't get the
impression that he's an expert at all. It
might just be the way he lectures, but he
gives the impression of somebody who
doesn't know very much. Also I'm pretty
sure everything he's talking about is just a
differential equation. Plus some kid just
walked in and he smells like weed.

To get actually scaled sense of what's up, here's the log(gdp/commodity) data and also log(ppp) side by side, you can read growth rates off the graph here as the slope of a line fit through the data. If you look at the major developed countries: GBR, DEU […] [Original post on mastodon.sdf.org]

From sept 1 to sept 5, feels like oscillated from about 60 to about 85 or 90F each day. Then it was about 70F all day Sept 6, and has been trending up since. highs about 95 Sept 7 and 8, and about 110 today.

63C Age-restricted social media platform
(1) For the purposes of this Act, age-restricted social media platform means:
(a) an electronic service that satisfies the following conditions:
(i) the sole purpose, or a significant purpose, of the service is to enable online social interaction between 2 or more end-users;
(ii) the service allows end-users to link to, or interact with, some or all of the other end-users;
(iii) the service allows end-users to post material on the service;
(iv) such other conditions (if any) as are set out in the legislative rules; or
(b) an electronic service specified in the legislative rules;
but does not include a service mentioned in subsection (6).
Note 1: Online social interaction does not include (for example) online business interaction.
Note 2: An age-resricted social media platform may be, but i not necessarily, social media service under section 13,
Note 3: For specification by clas, se subsection 13(3) of the Legislation Act 2003
(2) For the purposes of subparagraph (1)(a)(i), online social interaction includes online interaction that enables end-users to share material for
social purposes.
Note: Social purposes does not include (for example) business purposes.
(3) In determining whether the condition set out in subparagraph (1)()(i) is satisfied, disregard any of the following purposes
(a) the provision of advertising material on the service;
(b) the generation of revenue from the provision of advertising material on the service.
(4) The Minister may only make legislative rules specifying an electronic service for the purposes of paragraph (1)(b) if the Minister is satisfied
that it is reasonably necessary to do so in order to minimise harm to age-restricted users,
(5) Before making legislative rules specifying an electronic service for the purposes of paragraph (1)(b):
(a) the Minister must seek advice from the Commissioner, and must have regard to that advice; and
(b) the Minister may seek advice from any other authorities or agencies of the Commonwealth that the Minister considers relevant, and
may have regard to any such advice.

@johncarlosbaez For small angles, sin(x) ~ x and for our experiments, acceleration is proportional to sin(angle) or angle... We can only tease out the difference if we go to larger angles, and maybe higher precision measurements.
Using a GLM fit forcing the line through (0,0) the estimated acceleration is proportional to the sine of the angle (or the angle since they're all small less than about 0.12 radians)

Daniel Lakeland @dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gy · 13/06/2026
If our assumption of a linear function is correct, and the acceleration doesn't depend on the ball's material, then we would get a fairly flat estimate across the different ball sizes. We see a flat estimate across ball diameter, and ball density:
Data indicates about 45cm/s^2 for low slope and 78cm/s^2 for higher slope independent of ball sizeData indicates 45 cm/s^2 and 78cm/s^2 for low and high slopes, independent of ball density.
