On President’s Day, dancers took to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and the plaza outside the Kennedy Center to perform “ResistDance” — a piece created by Tony Award-winning choreographer Mathew Steffens to honor Renée Good and Alex Pretti, two peaceful bystanders killed by ICE. Artists have always been among the first to sound the alarm, and right now they are using their bodies, their craft, and their courage to say: we see what is happening, and we will not look away. This is what it looks like when art becomes action. If you feel moved by what these dancers are doing, find your local arts community, show up to performances and protests, and support organizations documenting and defending the lives of immigrants in your community. The Kennedy Center may be temporarily closed to the public, but the public showed up anyway — and that is exactly the point.——————————🎥 @underthedesknews and @firstamendmenttroop: “On President’s Day, the First Amendment Troop staged ‘ResistDance’ — a tribute and act of artistic dissent — at the Lincoln Memorial, followed by a guerrilla performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Created by the advocacy arm of hungryman Productions, led by Bryan Buckley, with Tony Award-winning choreographer Mathew Steffens, the piece honored Renée Good and Alex Pretti.#TurnOutandUp #ResistDance #ArtIsResistance #PresidentsDay #DanceForDemocracyView all 1,320 comments
