My read is that there aren’t five votes to let Trump literally rig elections. Roberts and Barrett won’t greenlight overt election subversion or chaotic, illegal interference with voting. Kavanaugh and Gorsuch aren’t reliable but don’t love the chaos either. Thomas and Alito want to end democracy.

"Earth, Wind and Empire" An avatar of #empire, clutching the instruments of our destruction, exhaling hurricanes toward the islands. My new #cartoon is a reminder that the #ClimateCrisis is not natural—it is manufactured, and it is profitable. #Hawaii #Hurricane #Art #Illustration #DigitalArt
My latest editorial cartoon depicts an apparition—an avatar of Empire in all its grotesque glory. It is the true form of Uncle Sam: a twisted, corrupted demon dressed in a black suit with a matching black top hat emblazoned with a neon dollar sign. His wild, straw-colored hair floats around him like he's underwater. His body is a voluminous black blob with multiple spider-like appendages protruding from it. Four arms, each representing a horseman of the apocalypse—red for war, white for slaughter, blue for pestilence, pale green for death.

In his pale hand, adorned with gold and platinum diamond rings—a symbol of extraction, industry, and wealth hoarded while the world burns—he clutches the United Nations charter, rolled up like a cigar and lit on fire at the end. From his mouth, he exhales three massive hurricanes, moving west across the Pacific toward Hawaiʻi, which is visibly surrounded by them.

If this is not subtle, it's because it is not meant to be.

Look closer at what this apparition clutches to its amorphous bosom: a bomb representing the war industry, a barrel of stolen Venezuelan crude oil with an oil well behind it representing fossil fuels, a morbidly obese cow and pig representing industrial agriculture, a can of Roundup doing double duty for industrial ag and the chemical industry, a plastic bag, solo cup, plastic fork, and plastic six-pack ring representing the plastics industry.

These are the engines of American empire. They are also the primary drivers of climate collapse.

Signs through mail/early walk-in point to another abysmal turnout, especially a bummer since there’s been an impressive field of challenger + open seat candidates at the State & County levels this cycle, injecting energy to local races. #HIelections

Sometimes the most powerful defenders of the planet come in the smallest packages. My latest #cartoon celebrates the court decision that put #Hawaii 's endangered native bees over a luxury hotel expansion—because saving every species we can isn't just about them. It's about all of us. #biodiversity
My latest editorial cartoon captures a moment that feels both whimsical and profound—a construction worker, wearing a hard hat and driving a backhoe, has a tiny native bee land on his nose. The bee holds up a tiny sign that says "buzz off." The background is a quick landscape study of the Kuilima coastline near Turtle Bay on O‘ahu's north shore.

"Welcome to the Club" It's a big club, and you ain't in it. Hawaiʻi's Senate leadership is holding all the cards—and voters don't even have a seat at the table. #art #cartoon #digitalart #illustration #editorialcartoon #politics #Hawaii #democracy #ethics #oligarchy #power #elites #insiders
My latest editorial cartoon captures a moment in Hawaiʻi politics so brazen, so dripping with old-school machine tactics that, if I didn’t draw it, you might not believe it. But the scene playing out over an freshly-vacated Senate District 18 seat is all too real. It reveals everything that is broken about a system that can no longer—with a straight face—call itself a functioning democracy.

Let me set the stage for you, because the details matter.

In my cartoon, we find ourselves in a smokey backroom of an exclusive clubhouse. There’s a poker table, red, white and blue chips scattered about. Seated around it are the heavy hitters: Senate President Ron Kouchi, along with Senators Donovan Dela Cruz, Lynn DeCoite, and Donna Kim. They're decked out in matching leather jackets, like a biker gang or a crew from a Scorsese film. Dark sunglasses hide their eyes. Thick cigars glow in their mouths, sending plumes of smoke curling toward the ceiling. This is power. This is privilege. And they are at ease.

Standing at the center of the scene is Kouchi himself. In his hands, he holds a leather jacket—the uniform of the insider club—ready to present it to the group’s newest member. That newest member is a donkey, the unmistakable symbol of the Democratic Party. Dela Cruz leans in, offering the donkey a cigar, a gesture of initiation. The message is unmistakable: the party elite is taking control of a process that should belong to the people.

Looking through the windows in the background of the cartoon, pressed against the glass, we see the faces of the public. They are not smoking cigars or wearing leather. They are holding signs—angry, desperate, pleading signs. They read: "Let The Voters Decide!" "No Anointed Successors!" "We Want Democracy Now!" They are the people of Mililani Town, Waipi‘o Gentry, Crestview, Waikele, and Royal Kunia—locked out of the very process that is supposed to serve them.
