🚨 New preprint w/ @kathyrastle.bsky.social Morphological learning is thought to rely on consistent form–meaning mappings (-ed in walked marks past tense; cleaner & cleans share meaning). Using Tagalog reduplication & infixation, we test how readers process morphemes with no stable surface forms. ⬇️

🚨New preprint A recent model proposes that morphological processing is constrained by edge-alignment—only stems and affixes at word edges are subject to decomposition and subsequent activation. We investigate whether edge-alignment is a universal constraint that affects affix activation. Thread ⬇️

My 2nd MEG paper just got accepted for publication at Psychonomic Bulletin & Review! 🕺🏻 Using Tagalog as a test-case, we show that the brain can break down complex words into morphemes, despite obscured/opaque morphological boundaries. Can’t wait to share this paper.
