Filing taxes is just part of their biz model, it’s a great example of monetizing sunk cost. The consumer only discovers true price after investing time, uploading documents, linking accounts, being upsold on fear, and answering dozens of questions. By then, the switching cost is psychological.

Twitter 1.0 should’ve been exploring ideas like Bluesky that separate the social graph from client and make algo & moderation pluggable instead of locked to one company/owner(s). Even just funding an internal research org to prototype an open protocol for public posts could’ve changed everything.
