These are their names. All hired less than 3 years ago. This will be most of patrol in a couple of years. This is what Bob Kettle wants. To fill up SPD with warm bodies, who will fill the streets with cold ones.

The staff felt uncomfortable telling the cop how much he made them uncomfortable and they finally told a CSO who instructed them to contact her supervisor The CSO said he was known in the department for being “huggy”

Went down a rabbit hole while researching pornographically named Seattle Police Sergeant Dick Bonesteel. He's, in fact, the third in a line of Dick Bonesteels. His grandpa was a lawyer, UW trustee, and member of the Int'l Al Jolson Society.

One Seattle cop got paid $32,000 extra. We're pretty sure that was Sleeping Sergeant Paige Maks. The miscalculation was based on base and overtime pay in the past few years, and Maks was consistently on top. $500k in 2024.

Sad commentary but it’s really no use to call for his termination. SPD almost never fires officers, even for crimes. It took a whole international incident to get Daniel Auderer fired.

The 1st watch sergeant from Sam sector arrived at 8:30 am. According to our most recent roster, that was Nathan Biddle. Negotiators and members of the crisis team showed up around 9:30. So they had hours to develop a response.

SPD stopped naming cops who shoot people when the consent decree ended, so we do that now. The cop who shot the woman in Beacon Hill is Jose Jimenez, and we did a deep dive on him. Read all about him:

Officer Jose Jimenez, 34, had only been assigned to the SWAT team for less than a year. He was previously a member of the Community Response Group, SPD’s “problem-oriented policing” unit.

Get ready. Policing is about to get really really bad in Seattle. Patrol will be made up of about 50-100 60-year-old cops phoning it in on their way the door and barely trained 20-something rookies with itchy triggerfingers. All making twice as much as a normal city employee.

DivestSPD @divestspd.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
140 to 160 officers is roughly twice as many as SPD hired in any year with a comparable number of applicants. Shon Barnes was lowering hiring standards, and Chief Sayles will likely continue this practice to fill Mayor Wilson's 66 vacancies. www.divestspd.com/p/the-seattl...
divestspd.com
The Seattle police are lowering hiring standards—and we can prove it.
In June, a city analyst presented a quarterly report showing that the Seattle Police Department is on track to hire more cops than it can afford under its current budget.

DivestSPD @divestspd.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Per Wilson, SPD will hire ~140 officers this year (160+ last year). They're seeing fewer separations. Older cops are sticking around to boost their pensions (based on last 5 years of salary) under the new contract. SPD went $1.7m over budget last year and likely will again.

Seattle treats vacant positions differently when it's cops. Ghost cops (vacancies at SPD unfillable under any scenario) are treated like actually existing cops. Cutting them is "defunding." But it's fine to cut 100+ other vacant positions to fund 66 (also vacant) police FTEs.

The contract only sets the pay. There’s nothing in the contract that says she has to fund the SPD hiring plan, which adds 66 FTEs paid years.

$215,500 per FTE is extrapolated from a budget presentation Council analyst Greg Doss gave earlier this year. They always budget officer FTEs as a fixed number, regardless of actual salaries and not including OT.

It's how much SPD's budget will grow if it hits its hiring target of 1400 officers by 2028. 210* 214.5k per FTE = $45m Maybe they won't hit that, but they're on track to, and they're definitely lowering their hiring standards to hit it.
