One Seattle cop got paid $32,000 extra. We're pretty sure that was Sleeping Sergeant Paige Maks. The miscalculation was based on base and overtime pay in the past few years, and Maks was consistently on top. $500k in 2024.

Once again: If you want cops, pay for them. Nordstrom and all the members of the Chamber are begging for more cops. They use cops more. But they aren't lobbying for a tax to pay for more cops. Hiring 200 more cops at an exorbitant pay rate will burden the city.

Much of Brandi's financial backing comes from people (like Steve Gordon) associated with the Washington Policy Center, which Brandi is paid to speak at regularly. The WPC is the WA arm of the Koch-backed State Policy Network. Literally, the definition of dark money.

Brandi can make legal threats because she has a conservative legal organization backing her. That's propped up by—you guessed it—dark money. Steve Gordon, who heads Project 42, is on the board of directors of the Citizens Action Defense Fund, which represented Brandi in her PRA lawsuit.

FYI "dark money" means hiding the source of political funds by routing them through an organization that can keep donors secret, such as a 501(c)4. (Project 42, a 501(c)4, sponsors Brandi's show through its front group Future 42.) So, yes, she definitely takes dark money.
