Watching Alone in the Dark (the 1982 one, not the shitty 2005 one) and it stars Dwight Schultz as a therapist. My wife got very excited because he played Lt. Barclay in Star Trek. 😂

I guess Amazon is doin' that thing where they try to convince us that a few $$ off a book here & there makes up for the massive long term damage they're doing to the world. Anyway, here are some books, a few $$ off for the month that aren't selling data to ICE or devouring competitors #BookSky

Having known little of the Radium Girls before I read this book, I was HORRIFIED at what these women went through. A must read for anyone who enjoys nonfiction history written in a narrative style.

I became super interested in Vodou in college so it was awesome to read a book about Vodou where it’s accurate/not evil and actually written by someone who’s Haitian (a lot of white people seem to write about Vodou).

I accidentally started a shit storm on Facebook because I mentioned the time some “anti-woke” dumbass tried to argue that Frankenstein didn’t have political commentary. A bunch of people are either insisting it never happened or arguing that he was right somehow. It’s amazing to watch.

That’s awful! I bring my wife to many of my appointments both for emotional support and because she’s better at remembering things than me. Since I work in addiction medicine we have a lot of people who bring an emotional support person with them and it’s never an issue.

If your healthcare provider won’t let you bring someone with you for emotional support they’re an asshole. We have so many patients who bring a partner, parent, friend, etc. to their appointments and they’re always afraid we’re not going to let their support person in with them. 😢 Of course we will!

There’s also weird mentality that marginalized characters have to be perfect and positive representatives of their communities, and if they have flaws, or “worse,” they aren’t a good person, then that’s offensive.

Reading too much “cozy fiction” has poisoned people’s minds. They don’t want to engage with anything that might make them uncomfortable. For the record I don’t think there’s anything wrong with cozy fic per se, the problem is when you refuse to engage with any art that challenges you.

Every time one of my coworkers complains about their male partners it’s always something wild like how he played video games all day while she cooked and cleaned or how he got super angry and jealous when she hung out with a male friend. Never had to deal with any of that in my marriage.

Diversity in Horror (they/them) @diversityhorror.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
I’m not a huge fan of (mostly hetero) romance books, but the vitriol men seem to have for it is WILD. It may not be my cup of tea, but it doesn’t bother me at all if other people enjoy it because it’s super weird to care that much what other people like (assuming it doesn’t hurt anyone).

I’m married to a woman and I’ve got to be honest, we don’t seem to have a lot of the problems hetero couples do. We split chores evenly, we like spending time together, we don’t get jealous if the others hang out with other people, and we know how to talk to each other, etc.

My brother cut off my mom and us for a few years when his abusive, alcoholic wife tried to isolate him from everyone. My mother never once felt the need to tell everyone or make it about herself. She just worried about my brother and wanted him to be safe and happy. Thankfully he’s divorced now.

My wife cut off her father after he voted for Trump (and was an asshole at our wedding, and threw her out for being gay, etc.) and she was soooooo much happier afterward. Meanwhile her dad whined about her “abandoning” him for “no reason.” He wouldn’t even apologize after he found out he was dying.

I mean, parents who stopped enabling their children with addiction and adult children who are isolated by abusers (I’ve seen examples of both) can cut off good parents. But these parents are more concerned about their children’s safety than getting sympathy points from internet strangers.

But 99% of the time it’s because the parent was shitty. Until he died my father-in-law acted like the victim when my wife cut contact because he voted for Trump.

Literally the only cases when I felt bad for the parent was when their child was struggling with addiction and they cut contact when their parent refused to enable them or when the child was in an abusive relationship and their abuser isolated them from friends and family (which happened to my bro).
