:-D I love details that I don't have to look up to remember! The magic 8 cast one hurts my hands hence the tab toe. I'm intrigued by a secret third pair. That person is LUCKY!

Both pairs look great! I would love to know what heel and toe you prefer.

Lol! Indeed! :-) As for sock weight, you're in luck! I LOVE designing and knitting DK socks! I even have a couple Worsted patterns. There're all on my website but let me know if you need help choosing.

Maybe a trend of creating trans flag art is about to take off! 👀

It could be cool to knit the border. It would add some extra visual interest. I’m partial to a garter short row edging or pick up all sts and knit in the round. Good luck!

I’ve never used one. My technique is pretty haphazard and changes from sock to sock. It’s super satisfying when you can wear the sock again so it’s worth it. I may actually watch some others do it and try to pick up some more skill.

I think all my designs that are true to me and my art are mildly chaotic.

this is such a beautiful compliment. you really understand what happened in the design process. i was worried about it leaning too femme because that wouldn't fit how i wanted to wear it. but, a delicate detail hear or there adds elegance which is genderless.

thanks! it felt like a chance for some visual interest but also to keep me from getting bored while knitting the yoke.

I used to mend with the same yarn. But, it was definitely boring. This is much more fun and it shows what the socks have lived through already.

Lol that’s a new phrase for me. While I’m at it , I’m making changes to other knits that I don’t love. It’ll be like a new-ish wardrobe come fall.

#showmeyourknits Just in time for this sweater fresh off the blocking boards. Pattern was improvised using trial -error -more error -frogging. The shaping is so that I can wear it bra less if I choose. The cables make me happy. The yarn is onion dyed by @serendipitouswool.bsky.social . #knitsky

Niceeeee. I’m reworking my Modcast. I frogged the body, the unplanned gathers really bugged me. Instead of casting on a new sweater I decided to fix that one. I’ll take a picture later.

for me, i like the flow of knitting without having markers hit my fingers or getting gripped in my palm. i feel like i can just zone out.

Done! For me traditional heel flaps are harder to darn. Also, when I knit my socks too short they wear in weird places. 🥴 That’s visible in some of the mends. Glad I got this done before the cool weather arrives. There’s something truly special about sliding my feet into hand knit socks. #knitsky

I like to read my knitting. I don’t need a marker to tell me what to do and when because like …I’m looking at it. But, *cough* I’m not actually looking most of the time lol. I’m watching tv or looking out the window.

That’s so true dude. Cisgender people were taught we’re ‘normal and right’. Like humans existing in their bodies can be wrong. 😒 And Black folks are continuously portrayed as less human and expendable. The answer is really for us to *see* each other in our fullness.

Fatimah (fuh-TEE-muh) @disturbingthefleece.com · 28/08/2025
There’s something really special about hearing the entire story the artist is trying to tell you from start to finish. Just cherry picking songs doesn’t allow for that.

Did you know that I gleefully take custom orders? And yes, even if you know how to knit you can still order something one of kind from me. For bridal, daily use, and gifts. DM me and let's chat. -A cardigan for you? -A sweater for a graduate? -A shawl for a special occasion? -A hat for big hair?

LOL Like, yes I should see it getting thin and darn it right away but then I have to take it off. Or maybe I can be efficient if there's a pile (totally never happens that way). As for 'letting them go' have you considered knitting a new foot altogether? Start with the old cuff and reknit the foot.

Fatimah (fuh-TEE-muh) @disturbingthefleece.com · 19/08/2025
I totally see what you mean. The first technique that I learned only works occasionally. So I kind of make it up every time. I too have a tender foot, my biggest suggestion is to darn *the outside*. Doing the inside puts the repair against your foot. No thank you lol.

Sighhhh I should do that. I always plan to but then I just love wearing them so much.

Ohhhh I would totally be into this! Heck, I would even take listening to an audiobook. Also, I too have a pile of 'to be mended' and 'to be hemmed/taken in'.

Ugh. I swear I spend more time darning socks than wearing them! 😭 But hand knit socks are the best and repair over replacing is better for us all. Do you darn too? Does it feel like a chore? See you in a few hours… #knitsky

Flock was about more than buying stuff. Yes, it’s a marketplace (and it was lovely) but I didn’t focus on ‘acquisition’. I bought art I’ve been coveting, art from Black women, & art with practical uses for me. Yarn, hand towels, a sticker, a ring, pest repellent spray, and some markers. #knitsky

I am really knitting another sock. *gasp* this would be my fourth one. No, I don't care about pairs. XD It's @disturbingthefleece.com 's Carter Gables and she patiently explained sock fit, needle + fabric to my ignorant self. I'm knitting the largest size, but I could easily have gone down 🧶#knitsky
A white long foot in the beginning of a dark blue sock with cables that look a bit like shoelaces for fancy boots or skates, on a cream pillow with a charcoal floral patternSame foot and sock, but now with added fingers, nails painted in the same shade as the sock, but very chipped after weeks of wear

Meet Carter Gables: handsome, practical, and cabled. A bold cable on front and a wide garter panel on back. Knit toe up beginning with a unique tab toe and an afterthought heel. As long as the yarn is wool, plied, and sock weight it's fair game. Find the pattern on my site. #knitsky #knitting

This pattern has been waiting for a loooong time, y'all. Stay tuned for this cabled sock pattern end of July. Too excited to wait? Head over to Rav or my site. Knit a pair of DK weight socks in the meantime. What's your fav color for sock knitting? Me? I love variegated socks. #knitsky #knitting

Thanks for this question! So with dyers/yarn shops it’s that people want the cheapest yarn immediately. They come to the shop to ask questions but buy at an online option with every color and weight. As a designer, people complain about paying for patterns and illegally share them. Generally.

More independent makers are folding. Folks, art is valuable to our lives. The talent & passion can’t be replaced with mass produced soulless products. Every pattern I write, though *underpriced*, tells a story and is full of intention. Pay for what you care about. An artless world is a grim one.

I'm teaching at Knit City Vancouver! Meaning we can meet & learn together IRL (as the kids say lol). My One of Kind Hat class covers yarn choice, fit, & cable choices. I'm bringing a pile of swatches and lots of knowledge. FYI Vancouver is mostly English speaking and safe. Will I see you there?
