You see it here in DC with the Caps. There's a generation who grew up with Ovechkin and the team in the playoffs every year. Following the Caps is part of their life. The O's are like that for older people who grew up in the 60s-70s, but that group gets older/smaller every year.

I don't think you're necessarily wrong about Palmer, but there's a diplomatic way to approach the situation and sounds like Albernaz didn't use it. That said, if you saw something encouraging from Alby this year, we'll have to agree to disagree on that

Palmer may be a know-it-all, but he doesn't know nothing. In isolation, I don't think this is a big deal. But it's part of a pattern of behavior. After a year, it's hard to know who Albernaz respects or values other than himself. I don't see someone building something/leading.

The frustration with Albernaz is not just due to his connection with Elias, or because he blew off Jim Palmer. It's part of a troubling pattern of arrogance and disrespect for this team, its players, and fans. People don't like rooting for a jerk, particularly one who loses.

This was the quote that first turned me off Alby. It's completely inane. I got no perks for sticking with the team from '18-'21, and they'll gladly take my money as soon as I want to come back. The type of thing someone who isn't very bright would say.

The fact that he's clearly been whining to his friends about O's fans turning on him shows he isn't looking at himself at all for his failures this year. He's a loser and the sooner the O's move on, the better.

I think it's worth asking whether it's ever merited for a manager to single out players using such coarse language. It's unprofessional, and I can't think of many instances where I've heard other managers do this publicly. And it's something I think Elias should be asked about as well.

Fair point, but in 23-24 they also didn't really augment the roster to support a playoff push when the team was performing. We have no evidence Elias will actually do that. I couldn't blame an experienced manager for wanting to steer clear of the situation here

I highly recommend anything by Tana French (she has a few on that list). FWIW, her Cal Hooper series (The Searcher, The Hunter, The Keeper) didn't make the list but those are my favorites of hers.
