My wife tells a story of listening to Delilah on the radio years ago. Caller pours their heart out: divorce, lost a friend to cancer, rough year. “Delilah I could use a song that brings me some hope and peace.” Delilah gives her spiel and then “Up on the housetop reindeer paws…”

Last year my son got a train engine with a propeller that he calls “the red one that flies.” It broke about 2 months ago. Tonight he wrote Santa a letter asking him to fix it in his shop for him. And Santa is doing just that!

I can think of no one who shaped North Carolina’s recent successes as much as Governor Jim Hunt. Governor for 16 years, he was a visionary who founded Smart Start, raised teacher pay, protected air quality, and created the NC Biotech Center. On a personal level, he was a mentor and dear friend.
