We celebrate Christmas because it's Mother Goose's birthday.

found this for 25¢ and it's pretty good. A mid 80s literary fiction novel about an American living in Kyoto in the late 70s.

Reading another Dave Robicheaux book and this sentence took me out. There's fun crime fiction, and then there's deeply affecting and meaningful crime fiction.

What a despicable way to be a musician. Complete artistic bankruptcy. Perverse and embarrassing.

Knocked out another Hillerman this weekend. Sorry that it took me so long to get to these but I'm pacing myself on them.

Today's delight: the first Brother Cadfael novel. Been meaning to read these for 25 years. Exactly what I'd hoped it would be.

Anyone ever read a Delores Hitchens novel? Very solid mid-century pulp. Enjoying THE WATCHER very much.

Finished the new Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Pretty solid but I may have become somewhat allergic to magical realism in my old age. Decades of exposure to nothing but fantastic fiction may have used up all my tolerance for the impossible.

Nobody ever asks you what you're reading when you're looking at your phone, but a person with a paperback has become enough of a novelty in public that two different people at the hospital* have asked me about it. *(I'm fine, I'm visiting someone)

Finally reading a John Updike novel and he calls someone's mother-in-law a "miserable nickel hugger"

watched the fantastic Miami Vice episode "Made for Each Other" tonight. Great example of a network TV action drama having the guts to do action comedy. This ep is one of the best buddy cop films of the '80s.
