Hey Laura, asset management is important for several reasons, and it’s not free 😉 Unless you’re ‘industry’ abandoning oil wells: 200,000+ in Alberta, who’s taxpayers must fund the clean-up 🏴‍☠️🦨🛢️

Rich in relish 😍 Late night canning accomplishment… the culmination of a two day process (veg has to rest, salted, for a day). 20 pints & half-pints of spicy zucchini relish. Made with 100% home grown veggies #growyourown

Nomination papers submitted! It’s been almost four years as Director: countless meetings & reports read, alongside advocacy for community priorities. I’m excited to continue the work of serving and speaking up for residents of Area C. Local government election day is October 17 #votingiscool

Pets are awesome. I love my dogs who make sure everyday has fresh air and exercise, critical for my mental health ✨

Between a Committee of the Whole discussing grant policy and an evening community OCP meeting about housing, a dog walk through the neighbouring woodlot down to the shore. We’ve been experiencing really beautiful fog lately, shifting our usual landscapes ✨
Border collie on a boulder at the shore looking back. Maybe she’s wondering where all the other islands have disappeared to. There is a fog bank hiding them Ocean’s edge, stones surfacing, fog bank obscuring the view beyond

Outside is the antidote
The work of beavers, a pond and spillway with a misty forest in the distance A survivor, an growth Douglas fir with a complex top amongst much younger/smaller trees A cedar tree with a unique split/hollow base — likely once upon a time there was a stump in this space which nurtured the tree

Summer has a new coat so she can stay warm when we’re outside this winter, making trails or pruning fruit trees.

Another windy day & forest industry detritus scrubs Quadra’s shores of intertidal life news.uvic.ca/media-releas... : Researchers suspect loss of barnacle beds & invertebrates due to log abrasion has contributed to decline of shorebird populations. Since 1970, a 50-per-cent drop in some shorebirds

Listening to @jasondsouza.bsky.social talk about a lack of fibre on Vancouver Island and I can’t help but wonder *why* when the industry leaves behind these mountains of fibre to become carbon spills (they get burned). I asked Mosaic reps, they said until it was mandated, it wasn’t cost effective 🤷‍♀️

Could BC’s forestry crisis stem from more than tariffs? It’s nauseating seeing a cut of less than 10 acres with these massive burn piles, each bigger than my house. Not only an unnecessary carbon spill but what a freaking waste! Brought to you by Mosaic on Quadra Island. FYI, @rparmarbc.bsky.social

It’s lake swim season! And Quadra Island has so many lakes ✨ Newton Lake has a special colour and was a refreshing dip today.
A lake with a hint of teal, some Labrador tea hanging over the shore, low slung hills in the distance Forest find of the day… I think it’s called pine sap, they don’t contain chlorophyll; instead it parasitizes fungi.

Discovered something happening in the garden today… metamorphosis in action. A sphinx moth becoming its flighted self. It climbed up a grass stem, waiting for its wings to slowly fill. A lepidopterist friend came to see it and moved it to a plum branch. Such a treat to observe all day 😍 #moth

😬😬 North Island MLA publishing letter of support for Gunn; meanwhile many First Nations leaders in the riding disagree: “His past statements deny the truth of the Indigenous experience and demonstrate why he is not the right person to represent this region” — Chief Chris Roberts, Wei Wai Kum Nation
“A letter went out on my legislature letterhead regarding a local federal election candidate. That was a mistake and it will not happen again” said North Island MLA Kindy in a statement posted on her social media channels Monday.
“I take full responsibility for this error”. “Mr Gunn’s remarks from years ago were not just careless - they seem to reflect his true beliefs and a deep misunderstanding of the challenges indigenous communities continue to face” said Wei Wai Kum Chief Councillor Chris Roberts.
“His past statements deny the truth of the Indigenous experience and demonstrate why he is not the right person to represent this region” he added in a statement.
