Week 3 of Moviedrome S1 re-enactment, and 1981's "Diva", the breakthrough film of the burgeoning French "Cinéma du look" movement. Style? Substance? Does it hold up? Watch along (or share your back-in-the-day thoughts) and do go comment on the community thread of my YouTube channel. Thanks!

Week 2 of the Moviedrome Rewatch Project, and "Electra Glide In Blue" (1973). New Hollywood outlier? Countercultural oddity? Existential procedural? Watch along yourself this weekend and feel free to comment on the community post on my YouTube channel. Cheers!

#My9Albums As close as I can get...a combination of big-deal "at the time" records, and ones that make me feel exactly the same when I hear them now, as they did when I first heard them.

Kicking off an epic week-by-week Moviedrome rewatch with friends, starting tonight with "The Wicker Man" in the traditional MD slot. I'll be making some videos about the films themselves soon enough...to begin with though, a brief intro to Moviedrome itself. Link below. Thx! youtu.be/RiDNiTEtkQM

Rapeman, Dinosaur Jr and Band Of Susans (on the same bill), Newport 1988. I was 16, it was meant to be in the scary punk venue (it got moved to the local Labour Club) and having no mates to go with, I just bottled it. Haunts me to this day.

Here you go...Views and hours over the same period for my most recent video. Views get a boost starting on the 27th (halfway between 5 and 6), whilst the watch time is completely unaffected. A thoroughly pointless update, seemingly designed to confuse and/or hoodwink.

Shoptalk! YouTube's "improved" stats inflate view numbers, whilst having zero impact on watch time. The algo's still fully focused on maximising YT's ad revenue. The fake thrill of seeing a few more (irrelevant) clicks is there to make small channels feel like they're getting a fair crack? Pffft!

Husker Du "Warehouse: Songs And Stories" It was a longbox import (like the one pictured) that I bought from a stall at the 1990 Reading Festival. I was heading for Uni in September, and saved enough for my first CD player via a truly dreadful summer job that same year. First festival, first CD!

Hey all! Been neglecting the '90s of late, so time for a classic EP of post-something-or-other guitar noise, namely June of '44 and "The Anatomy Of Sharks". Includes (possibly) the best track they ever produced, the epic 11-minute "Sharks And Sailors". I go on about it here. youtu.be/AJGzI0duLv0

Yeah, no shade on the noseybonks...more on the social media circus that's risen around them (Organic? Not? Who can say?) I got very weary of that musical style, and for me, no amount of set-dressing can offset that. YouTube is now about ads, and who's best placed to host them. It's very sad.

Potenital YouTube viewers. Trigger warning! Video comments that contain the phrase "The algorithm brought me here!" WILL make me think less of you. The algorithm points you towards stuff it thinks you'll like. You actually know what you like. Own it. Use 'Search'. You're better than this.
