Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 18/09/2026That's only because their opponents assume it isn't. 101
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I don't think it is moot if the universe is indeterministic. Compatibilists believe that free will is such that it doesn't matter whether or not the world is indeterministic; that if you think indeterminism is crucial for free will then you're wrong. Compatibilist free will is compatible either way. 120

Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 20/08/2026The more it alters the text, the stronger the signal can be, and the more confident we can be in interpreting the text as influenced by AI. The watermarking is easier to detect and more reliable the more the text is edited. 000
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Indeed it didn't. Neither did it say how strong the signal would be. I'm telling you that if all it did is add a comma where it is reasonable for a comma to be, it is mathematically and logically impossible for there to be a detectable signal. It's not magic. 100
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 18/08/2026It said that if it restructures a bit, it would or could bear a mark. OK. There could be a weak bit of watermarking. But trivially weak. It wouldn't prove anything. You need the amount of signal to build up if you want any sort of confidence that AI was used. 100
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Of course not. Never trust an LLM with anything you can't verify for yourself. But also you may be misinterpreting what it said. 120
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Whatever Claude says, it is not technically possible to clearly watermark a text just by adding a comma where there should be a comma. Any text you copy and paste has the potential to bear watermarking signals, but the less you copy the weaker the signal. A comma is trivial. 100
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Who knows. My point is that an interesting result or argument should be reviewed and published, even if it's from an AI. 000
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 13/08/2026If an AI proves the Riemann Hypothesis, should it not go through peer review and be published? If yes, then why no for philosophy? The point of publishing is not only to advance your career and prove your worth. It's also to vet new ideas and get them out there. 120
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Sure. I don't know too much about DBH but he came from nowhere (from my perspective) to being omnipresent on my feeds, and a character in my neverending dialogue with Tina Forsee on emergence, so it would be good to see what his deal is. 020
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 13/08/2026That's his conclusion but I don't think it's intended to mean that we are heading in that direction. We are going to go extinct eventually. If we lasted forever we would presumably get around to making lots of simulations eventually. So it's just a question of which happens first. 010
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 04/08/2026The problem for BBs is that everything they observe, everything they think, is basically random. There is no reason to think that the conclusions they form have any basis in reality or rationality. The same is not true of simulated beings. 131
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Distract the people in case one of them turns out to be Hitler. 000
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Not necessarily. Sean Carroll argues that BBs are cognitively unstable, in that they undermine any reason you might have to conclude you are a BB. The same is not true of simulated povs. So you could conclude,as Carroll does, that BBs must be impossible. 230

Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 27/04/2026It's good! Em-dashes abound, but we won't hold that against it. I don't know whether the idea of Judas's motivation was in the prompt, or the training data, or a creative act by an LLM, or indeed if this was written by a human, but it's a nice and plausible angle. 100
Disagreeable Me @disagreeableme.bsky.social · 25/04/2026Also it's possible for the training/learning process to be different but the end result to be similar. The desired effect is behavioral mimicry of an educated human. One way to achieve that could be to mimic the functional organisation of such a human's brain. 020
