and personally, I find the idea of having to spend a couple of hours in the car to and from work every day abhorrent. Our car culture was engineered around the idea of suburban homeowners commuting to work in a car that they replace every couple of years..

I don't expect a lot of people to get excited about that kind of lifestyle but what we have in the car industry is an arms race to make cars bigger and bigger to increase the image of survivability while actually increasing their lethality for everyone else...

I've been riding 12-14 miles a day 5 days a week (with plenty of train days for deadly weather) for over 20yrs. I've been carrying a kid for the last 10. I was car-free from '04-'13.

I've been biking year-round in Chicago since 2006. Drivers aren't good at looking or signaling before they do things. It's mostly been people changing lanes or turning at intersections without looking. Except for the time I got rear-ended onto the hood of an undercover unit in Logan Square. 🤷‍♀️

I've felt old since I was 10. No desire to be 27 again. I'm getting all kind of lines on my face and grey hair and my bones hurt but I'm alive and that's nice. And I can put the money I save on snake oil toward legitimate oils that preserve my bikes and enhance my sauces.
