I fully support trans rights and think last week's supreme court ruling was wrong, but as a middle-aged cis man I feel uncomfortable commenting on an issue where my lived experience is so much different from those involved. I agree with the views of this video though, and am happy to share it.

Scotland is a majority secular nation We enshrined the UN rights of the child in law So why do we still enforce religious worship in schools? All high school pupils - not just parents - should have the right to opt out My @heraldscotland.bsky.social column www.heraldscotland.com/politics/vie...

I don’t know if American readers can even begin to comprehend how badly a right-wing politician has to behave to lose the Daily Mail. They even led the pre-war cheerleading for Hitler.

Oh look. Yet another Brexit benefit… The thrill of being “held over a barrel by Trump” who may let us sell out our farmers and stock our shelves with hormone-pumped 🇺🇸 shite if we ask v nicely. Because the option of properly fixing what we broke with the EU will piss off the Daily Mail. Chef’s kiss.
Independent front page Wednesday 22 January:

Trump to hold UK over barrel on trade
Insiders say new president 'holds all the cards' in negotiations as 'desperate' Britain will be forced to accept terms of any deal to kickstart slow growth - and can't fall back on China or EU
DAVID MADDOX
IN WASHINGTON DC

Donald Trump's newly elected administration believes it has Sir Keir Starmer's government
"over a barrel" on trade as
Britain becomes increasingly reliant on a US deal, insiders have told The Independent.
Senior sources within the US
president's team claimed that the UK has no choice but to seek a trade agreement after the prime minister said that his government's success would be judged primarily on economic growth. With Britain's relations with the EU strained following Brexit, and only a modest investment deal secured on Rachel Reeves's recent trip to China, one Trump aide said it was time "to remind Starmer who holds all the cards in this relationship".
Washington has long wanted the UK to lift its import ban on chlorinated chicken and hormone-treated beef, a move the former UK ambassador to the US Kim Darroch warned would destroy British farming.

"The temptation that eternally confronts the woman”, Peterson writes, “is the idea that maternal benevolence can be pridefully extended to the entire world, to even the most poisonous of snakes” and “used to claim unearned moral virtue”. Sexist, misogynistic claptrap.

Maybe not the best idea listening to Anger on the Scotrail Express from @angryscotland.bsky.social while sitting on a late night Scotrail train, especially when I too was nearly stuck on a late train from Edinburgh during the Fringe when they cancelled all the stops between there and Glasgow.

Our first hint that Commander Maddox is the bad guy is that he consistently calls Data "it," never "he" In 1989, the writers correctly calculated that the fastest way to make folks intuitively grasp that this guy sucks is to have him misgender Data
Commander Maddox, this episode's monster of the week. He's a human in a blue Starfleet science uniform. He has shit-eating grin and a face made for punching.
