When my husband proposed he had made a ring out of a devils bit Scabious. That definitely makes it a favourite of mine. Lovely photo.

We saw both these species at Auchtermuchty Common on Saturday. And I saw large flowered at Eden Springs near Cupar last week. A first for me. But it had disappeared 2 days later.

We found sand leek growing on the banks of the river carron near Falkirk a couple of years ago. Hadn’t been recorded in the area for over 20 years. This year there were 150 plants.

Two new to us plants this weekend that fit with @wildflowerhour.bsky.social challenge. #aquaticplants #wildflowerhour the delicate pink of bog pimpernel on Iona and brookweed, a bit of rarity on Staffa. Also beautiful water lilies and bog asphodel on Mull.

We found these growing near us alongside the river Carron about 2 years ago. They hadn’t been recorded in the district for over 20 years. This year there are about 150 flowers. Up from 50.

@ukorchids.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social my other half found a conjoined common spotted orchid today at Bamff Rewilding Estate in Alyth. Fasciation I think. I guess it’s not very common. #orchids #wildflowerhour

#wildflowerID. We saw this flower on the coastal path in the East Neuk of Fife today. Dandelion family of some sort. Rosette leaves with serration. And very thick, hard stems. Not sure what it is. #wildflowerhour

Redmyre SSSI just outside Dundee. Scotland. Think it may be bog pondweed.

Maybe a bogweed flower of some sort?

We went to visit a SSSI today to look for orchids. I found something I can’t identify. It was a fen/bog area and this wee ‘head’ was growing out of sphagnum moss next to sundew. About 3cm tall. Top looks like a horsetail but with tiny wee flowers. @bsbibotany.bsky.social #plantid #wildflowerhour

They have been changing so much in recent years. Expanding and often filled with water all winter. A mass of northern marsh orchids in the spring. Grass of parnassus in the autumn. Beautiful indeed.

@bsbibotany.bsky.social #wildflowerhour #lawnflowers we don’t have much of a garden so count the countryside round about as our garden. Today it was the dune slacks at Tentsmuir. Orchids (late for last week?), centaury, buttercups and more.

#wildflowerhour #wildflowershow it’s been a glorious couple of days. Pink and yellow and white everywhere. But my absolute favourite today was capturing a #hummingbirdhawkmoth on the east coast of Fife. With a red campion.

@wildflowerhour.bsky.social Found my first wood anemone of the year today in Anagach woods. A small remnant of the Caledonian Pine Forest. The anemones are indicators of ancient woodland. They only spread about 6ft in 100 years. #storyplants #wildflowerhour

Beautiful. We had been hoping to make it to Braemar but the snow stopped us. We did get to Dunkeld and part of the Fife coastal path instead. But the snow. In the Quioch.
