Do they believe us now when we say not everyone has the same 24 hours? Wednesday evening my kitchen was a mess and I didn’t know where to begin or find the time. We got back from Austria today and it was done in 10mins. My Wednesday self didn’t have my Friday self’s 10mins. That’s where we’re at.

I learnt this week that we are DINKS - dual income no kids. Since my husband and I are both immigrants in Germany we will be frowned upon if we are unemployed, but since we don’t have children, we may not keep our entire salaries either.

I don’t know where to buy langoustines in Frankfurt. I want to cook them in hot water and dunk them in hot garlic butter - melted butter warmed with grated garlic, shallots, parsley, salt and pepper and a teensy bit of chili flakes.

Mussels with blue cheese (Roquefort or Bleu d’Auvergne) is a favourite and it’s an example of eating with hands in Europe. If I have you over for a Sri Lankan meal here, you can bet your bottom acorn that I will eat with my hands. This came up when we had the new neighbours over and the kids

My precious little neff wanted to go to Botswana today to see the zebras and giraffes. He collected carrots, a big banana, a lemon (and blueberries for the cheetahs) to take with us. He wanted to put things in the car. We compromised and watched zebras on National Geographic together.

My Tuesday’s visit to the doctor confirmed a bladder infection, she gave me an antibiotic while waiting for a lab report. Today’s lab report showed two infections, one not sensitive to the antibiotic. Wrote an email, no reply. I rushed to the practice with husband in tow. He’s crisis material.

My nephew and I have the same toys, animal world map and books. We play and read together over FaceTime. This is my zebra and his was Marty until I called mine Persephone. His zebra is now Persephone and mine is Marty. I wanted the cool name!

My 3 1/2 yo nephew and I added my father to a group call yesterday to ask if he’s a giant panda because my parents have bamboo in the garden. It was such a treat watching the boys having a good laugh. “Seeya, giant pandas eat a lot of bamboo! Are you a giant panda?”

In 2019, Merz announced he would halve the AfD. He got rid of the moderates in his party and walked it down the road of right-wing populism. As my Conservative MP told me in 2025: We need to take AfD voters' concerns seriously, so they return. Yea. That worked well.

A neighbour calls it Giessgate. The building’s live-in Hausmeister and Hausmeisterin were fired in June and the new firm has come around once a week. They haven’t watered the plants and given the weather since June, the plants really felt it. I watered some of the young plants voluntarily.

My husband has broken his foot and can’t do household stuff. I came up with this because I want to eat home cooked meals, but also not spend an eternity in the kitchen. I cooked down sliced and garlic with dried herbs, salt and pepper and chili flakes in the olive oil from a can of tuna.

There is serving of white beans, cooked down halves of cherry tomato and tuna in a white pasta bowl. There is a fork at the top.
