Introduced by Japanese home-builder Sekisui House in 2001, the initiative builds on the model of planting five native plant species around each newly built home. Since 2001, the initiative has resulted in more than 20 million plants across suburban and urban residential areas. (2/3)

Combined with insights from an earlier interview study, this experience revealed an interesting contrast: While tech practitioners experience sustainability in highly political terms at work, they associate it with social sustainability and the future of their families in their personal lives.
