Even Final Fantasy XIV, the game whose motto is practically "No please take your time, it's about the journey" almost never adds any activities for low level characters. Just a few limited jobs that are often added in content droughts and still require max level at some point. 🤔

Dear FFXIV players: Queueing for Ivalice, Eden, Void Ark, Omega series, level 70-90 duties, or Puppet's Bunker is NOT griefing. So if you report whoever did queue for those? You will be ignored. What IS griefing is AFKing after the first boss in Crystal Tower so we can't kick you for inactivity.

Not that it was bad in Three Houses at all - cause you got to repair weapons. But you still had the whole "Well I can't repair these Heroes Relics - so they're gonna stay until the final 1-2 chapters." Only Byleth's sword, which was rechargeable, got to see use.

And I can kinda see why in Engange. ...cause once I got Nova? Ivy had no need to use anything else. Period. Every decision was just "Nova this shit". Same with Carnwenhann on Merrin. It's kinda hard to find a system that 'works'. I think Fortune's Weave is kinda close.

Contrast Fates where the top rank weapons would come with a downside but you could abuse prf weapons with no consequence. Or Echoes/Gaiden where using unique weapons likewise had no real downside - but they have so little. Or Engage, where the S-ranked weapons come very VERY late.

Fortune's Weave has unbreakable weapons AND weapon durability - you use weapon durability for combat arts. Which actually are good, and this DOES contribute to decision making. but when weapons break, you don't lose them. You repair 'em. Which does mean you have to think about materials.

And three.... it's not without its issues there. Ie, the most powerful weapons. Once you get 'em? The game's largely over... so many will only see use on the last couple maps. Some games also experiment with unbreakable weapons. Gaiden/Echoes, Fates, and Engage. Even Fortune's Weave.

Apples to oranges, people. For one, Fire Emblem is a turn-based strategy. A sword that has about 25-30 uses will last a lot longer than in a real-time action game like Zelda. Two? That's contributed to the decision making. Ie, intentionally breaking a weapon so you can body-block enemies.

So, Fortune's Weave has me thinking of breakable weapons in games. I'm not a fan of the breakable weapons in Breath of the Wild - mostly because the weapons are practically made of foam and balsa wood with how easily they break. Fire Emblem is brought up as a common rebuttal to this.
