iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 29/09/2026Little movie fact: for the movie "Valkyrie" - they used the abandoned NVA Löpten airfield in Brandenburg as a stand in for the Wolfsschanze airfield in Rastenburg-Wilhelmsdorf (image 1 taken from the movie) digitalcosmonaut.com/flugplatz-lo... 041
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 28/09/2026Nothing wrong with the Strandkorb - but they can cost up to like €4k and I'd be surprised if he bought a cheap knockoff Alibaba one. His office saw itself pressured to make a statement that it was "privately" purchased and not tax payer funded. If he wasnt so damn unlikable nobody would have cared. 000
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 28/09/2026As I've gotten older - I've really internalized two things: 1. I don't need to give my opinion to everything I see/read/hear. (Both online and IRL). 2. It costs absolutley nothing to be nice. Following these two points, my quality of life has drastically increased. 0101
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 28/09/2026It's always nice to be reminded that there are kind people out there. The kids mother was running the marathon on Saturday, and we stood on the sidelines with a banner to cheer her on. A stranger filmed the interaction and then sent us the video. It costs nothing to be nice 🙂. 1120
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 26/09/2026I specifically don't climb things anymore or go up dodgy stairs - especially because I tend to always venture out alone. But I seemingly have no issue crawling under shit like this 🤷🏻♂️ sometimes my brain doesn't brain 030

The advertisement in Leipzig was put under monument protection in 1993. You used to be able to send a paid text message to a number and the sign would light up for 3 minutes. Sadly that service was discontinued in 2025. 082

It's a replica of Walter Womackas "Wenn Kommunisten träumen" (When communists dream) from 1976, and was originally displayed in the Palast der Republik. 171

iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026It's a quaint little church with a lot of history - and if one does pass by it by chance, it's well worth a visit - if it's open that is. 12/12 - fin 030
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026This church opted to repurpose a Kronenbrett in 1816 and decorate it with a religious like verse and praise for the victories in Leipzig and Waterloo and a diss against Napoleon. 11/12 130
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026The church in Rangsdorf has a second Totenkronenbrett - though a slightly more rare one. While most churches had a plaque with names commemorating those by name who had died during Wars of Liberation 10/12 110
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026The Totenkronenbrett was an ornate piece of Wordwork that held the crown (often until Easter when it was burnt in the traditional Easter fire) and gave a brief description of the person. They were traditonally kept inside the church, hence why many have survived to this day. 9/12 110
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026These crowns were sometimes quite ornate but more often than note made out of reeds and plants. The crowns were often left on the grave and deteriorated over time, but in certain regions they were placed on a Totenkronenbrett (Brett = shelf).(photos via wiki) 8/12 110
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026Such as this lovely "Totenkronenbrett" from 1781. Totenkronen or "Death Crowns" were traditonally given to those who died young/before they were married. The tradition evolved over time ultimately symbolizing the marriage between the dead and heaven . 7/12 110
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026But not all was lost. The windows were restored in 2009, and the church itself was renovated in 2018. While the church itself is somewhat plain - not uncommon with protestant churches - it does have some lovely details 6/12 110
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026The church bells were melted down in 1917, and then again in 1945. The church fell into disrepair afterwards, with the original wooden pews being removed in 1986. 5/12 110
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026The biggest change came in 1890, when the wealthy son of a Berlin doctor - Richard Spierkerman - funded the refurbishment of the church to a more "modern taste". The church received new windows and 2 church bells. 4/12 110
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026The village and church traded hands multiple times over the years. Each time, the church was slightly modified. The church burnt down and was rebuilt again in 1835. 3/12 110

iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 18/09/2026A little thread about this church that we passed by in Rangsdorf, Brandenburg. The first fieldstone church was built here around the year 1400. After a fire damaged the church in 1695, a new church was built in 1699/1700. 1/12 150
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 16/09/2026Not that where you were born really matters, but it feels like Berlin is used as a political springboard by these people. None of the candidates feel like they represent this city. 020
iamkosmonaut @digitalcosmonaut.com · 16/09/2026NGL - even as someone who wasn't born in Berlin, I find it somewhat "weird" that NONE of this year's main candidates are actually from Berlin. Werner Grafs bavarian accent is especially jarring. Saying that - Kai Wegner is from Spandau and look what good he's done... 010
