Dean is the well-loved town veterinarian, and he helps Cas auction off "A Date with a Babe" - snuggles with Sam's petting farm piglet, Babe - for charity. After the auction ends, he volunteers to help Cas with a few other things, too... 💚💙
Actor Misha Collins, wearing a cowboy hat, feeds a piglet held by seated actor Jensen Ackles as he sits on a stool onstage during a convention panel. As Jensen secures the piglet firmly under one arm, Misha holds the pig food out to the piglets snout in his cupped hand.

What does an archaeo-nerd do on their day off? Head to Salisbury Museum for their Festival of Archaeology, of course!

I felt the same way after this photo, but then found out he'd filmed all night in Toronto and then took a 5am flight to get to SPNNJ. I don't think he got any sleep, so I forgave the grumpy face. And he smiled in the one the next day, after a full night's sleep.

Pictures for @myenochian.bsky.social from St Nicholas Priory, located very close to where I'm staying in Exeter. It made me think of IOAWN! ❤️

Not as pretty as the Icelandic scenery, but here are a few random shots from my wander around Exeter today.
The sun is striking a clear protective door in front of the wooden Exeter Cathedral door. The outline of a shield with a sword and crossed keys (a seal for the church, I think?) is painted on the clear door, which casts a shadow on the wooden door making the image look burned onto the door.On an abandoned sign, a street poet has written "Cobbled streets & cobbled minds. Stop for a second...and breathe in time."A section of Exeter's Roman-era city wall stands in the middle of a highly developed shopping area. A sign on the wall identifies it (text of sign in next photo).A sign on the ruin of a wall reads:
THE CITY WALL
Built by the Romans about 200 AD, since repaired by others. Much of the City Wall still stands, some of it original Roman workmanship.

More scenes - Solheimajokull glacier and Seljalandsfoss waterfall. I walked behind it, and I'm now a little wet and a lot cold, but it was worth it!
The tongue of a glacier, white ice striped with black volcanic rock, is seen between high rock walls. At the bottom is a deep pool of meltwater. A rocky field is in the foreground. A sign near the glacier warns tourists not to go closer without a guide. Dangers listed include rockfalls, quicksand, and collapsing ice.A thin, lacey waterfall falls over a cliff. To the right people in waterproof jackets follow a path leading behind the waterfall. Many people can be seen as tiny specks in the distance, to the left and behind the waterfall. A view from behind the waterfall. The flat landscape can be faintly seen through the curtain of water and mist. The rocky wall of the cave is on the right.

Sites from today's tour of the South (west) Coast of Iceland. Waterfalls,a black sand beach, puffins, and whale bones - everything I could have asked for and more!
Many people stand at the base of a 60m high waterfall. On a volcanic beach in Iceland, the sand is black. In the background are two rock stacks in the sea.Puffins sit high up on a cliff.A woman smiles at the camera in a selfie, with bleached whale bones in the background.

I love that! We have Orion and Cassiopeia (Cassie), named by my kiddos, who are siblings we got during the pandemic when we lost Meara. This was the two of them the other day, curled up with me before I left.

More Reykjavik...National Museum of Iceland displays, World of Words manuscript exhibit, and Hallgrimskirkja.
Grave goods, including a necklace of colorful beads, bone combs and tools, and rusty boat nails, from a boat burial found in Iceland. A very old manuscript from Iceland's history is carefully displayed under low light.Public sculpture installation showing the silhouetted forms of two hollowed-out people.A church with a tall steeple sits in the center of Reykjavik. The steeple is created of jagged geometric shapes, meant to echo the volcanic rock formations found in Iceland.

Some scenes from Reykjavik today, as I waited for check in time to arrive.
A rainbow sculpture made of colorful triangles at the Keflavik airport.Across a rocky volcanic plain, a mountain sits in the distance. I am hiding the lower half of my face behind a hop on-hop off tourist bus brochure. The view across the bay near Reykjavik, with some stacked stone sculptures in the foreground.

Didn't get a lot of photos from the SHAs in New Orleans, but I did capture these charming little guys in an antique shop window. Hubby wouldn't let me bring them home, alas.

Had a lovely time at the Society for Historical Archaeology's most recent conference in New Orleans! In fact, I had such a good time that I realized I barely took any pictures! Great to see you April! @aprilmbeisaw.bsky.social

Both kids are home from their respective schools for Thanksgiving and wanted to watch Muppet Family Christmas over Thanksgiving leftovers. I have raised them well. ❤️ Hey, @muppethistory.bsky.social - any news on whether they will ever release this as a dvd??
There is a blurry picture of the tv. On the screen, a room full of Muppets dressed for Christmas sing Christmas carols.Another picture of the tv. On the screen, Jim Henson and Muppet dog Sprocket from Fraggle Rock watch the Muppets sing and discuss how they are glad the Muppets are having a good time.

Some fabulous zooarch bits and pieces from today! First, a shark vertebrae with use-wear evidence that it was worn as a pendant and secondly a sperm whale tooth! Alas, both are unprovenienced...
A round black bone, about two fingers wide, with a hole punched through the concave center.A round flat bone, viewed from the side, with symmetrical holes on either side. It looks a bit like the round wooden part of a tinker toy!Top view of an irregular round bone with a hole through the center. The bone, a shark vertebrae, has concentric circles coming out from the center.A conical bone, a sperm whale tooth, is held in someone's hand. Sometimes the boxes and tins artifacts were stored in are as interesting as the artifacts themselves! This Band-Aid tin has a patent date of Dec 28, 1926!
Image shows an antique tin in faded yellow and green that reads "Band-aid Speed Bandage: A convenient covering for cuts, burns, blisters, bruises, or abrasions". At the bottom of the tin it is labeled "25 cents".Picture shows the interior of the open band-aid tin. On the inside of the lid are three-step instructions for cutting the band-aid to the correct size, pulling the "protective crinoline" from the adhesive, and applying to the wound.

Hanging out at one of my favorite places - Old Fox Books in Annapolis!
A stack of colorful books (titles include Orbital; The Poetry of Impermanence, Mindfulness, and Joy; The Stardust Grail; and The Witches of El Paso) sits in front of an open computer and coffee cup. In the background is a table with several people working, and in the far background are several shelves full of books.

Next to a small picture of author Kurt Vonnegut is a quote from his book A Man Without a Country. The quote reads "The good Earth - we could have saved it, but we were too damn cheap and lazy."

And for my #archaeology folks... First photo is of a wee little bottle, likely used to hold something medicinal or cosmetic. Second shows a Hohner Harmonica nickle cover plate, and the third shows the same cover plate on a Sears and Robuck catalogue page (c. 1902, iirc) selling the same harmonica.
A very tiny bottle, only 1.5 inches tall, rests across two fingers of a person's hand.A worn-looking nickle cover plate from a Hohner Harmonica is featured. It reads "Hohner's Newest and Best Full Concert Harmonica in B. Made in Germany".A page from a turn-of-the-century Sears and Robuck catalogue shows a variety of harmonicas for sale. In the middle of the page sits a worn nickle cover plate matching the Hohner Harmonica advertisement shown directly below the artifact.

#Zooarchaeology photos! On the right is a bear phalanx (finger or toe bone). On the left is a portion of a mammal cranium - maybe also bear? I'm open to other suggestions!
A portion of a mammal skull being analyzed sits on a brown table behind a small ruler, showing 10 cm.A bear phalanx (finger bone) sits on a blue background next to a scale, showing the bone is approximately 3.5 cm long.
