Happy Saint Lucy’s Feast Day! I baked these traditional italian sweets called Saint Lucy’s Eyes and prayed to the Saint last night to bless them as she passed through my home, as tradition goes. #WitchSky #Folkmagick #FolkWitch
There is an image of Saint Lucy in a frame, lit by a beeswax candle, set above a plate of traditional Italian cookies called Saint Lucy’s Eyes. Next to the plate, there is a crystal goblet filled with water. There are traditional Italian cookies called Saint Lucy’s Eyes on a baking tray, ready to be baked

Thank you so much! Calligraphy is a truly beautiful discipline, and surprisingly relaxing once you get the hang of it! I encourage you to give it a try. It takes practice but I promise it’s not as hard as it looks :)

Have you ever wondered why certain saints or night creatures bring gifts during the Christmas season? Every country has its own traditions, and Italy is no exception. As witches I do believe that we can weave them into our solstice practice! #Witchsky #FolkMagick #Witchcraft #Folklore

For Day 10 of #witchmadness, I want to do a short post about the liminal spaces. My best jumps have corresponded with the betwix and betweens. So as a tool, for a #Hedgewitch, this is probably one of the most important. 🧵

Animism. Is the idea that all things have spirit. I literally mean everything. My spin is that not all things have enough spirit to be awake. The more life, story, and myth the greater the odds of it being awake. That doesn't mean it will want to work with you. Still Consent #WitchSky #Witchmadness

Day 4 #WitchMadness Intentions Vs Spells: how do you use them? I use Intentions when I have no time to weave a spell, especially when I need something quickly. A spell is the transposition of intention onto the physical plane. There's no spell without Intentions. #witchsky

Day 3 (I'm lateeee) #witchmadness What's a simple daily ritual you practice? I find a moment every day to honour my ancestors: i clean their altar, give them new offerings, just be present with them in complete silence and then I say some prayers for them, that's it 💫 #witchsky #folkmagic

Each witch's practice differs depending on the region they live in, working with the spirits that inhabit their land and using materials from their territory

Day 2: #WitchMadness Italian Witchcraft is a set of practices based on Italian history and folklore, which varies from region to region. It includes animistic and shamanic elements and a syncretized heritage of the pagan religion that were present on the peninsula, especially Greek, Roman and Norse

This doesn't mean that a modern practitioner of italian folk magic can't call themself a witch, it simply means they must be aware that this term does not apply to all practitioners
091
Dianus Le Fay @dianuslefay.bsky.social · 01/03/2025
Italian witchcraft may include elements of folk magic and syncretism with Catholicism, but they are two distinct things. Many elderly keepers of magical knowledge do not wish to be called witches because in italian folklore this word carries a strong negative connotation #witchmadness

Also, the famous "Stregheria" is not Italian Witchcraft but an Italian American revival of Witchcraft based on a hypothetical (and historically unverified) witch-cult, primarily focused on Tuscany, without considering the history and traditions of all of Italy #witchmadness #witchsky

Day 1 #witchmadness: What is Italian Witchcraft? Let's start with what it isn't. It is not a clearly structured body of practices and beliefs because each region of Italy has its own traditions, folklore, and history (continues below 👇🏻)

Bellezza Orsini was an italian folk healer who was tried for witchcraft in 1528. Although her confessions should not be taken literally due to torture, this remains one of the most beautiful descriptions of what witchcraft truly is #witchsky #pagansky #occultsky #witchcraft #italianwitchcraft

An old song, often attributed to coming from Cornwall, about a sea witch. The incredible painting "Sea Witch" by the incredible illustrator and concept artist Adrien Amilhat. #FolkloreThursday #Witchsky #FolkWitch
An old folk song, often attributed as coming from Cornwall:
"I think I'd like to be a witch,
   To sail upon the sea,
In a tub or sieve, in storm or shine,
   ’Mid wild waves flashing free.
I'd catch the billows by the mane,
   The bounding billows and strong,
Goad them, and curb them, or trample them down,
Or lull them with a song.

I'd churn the sea, I'd tether the winds,
   As suited my fancy best,
Or call the thunder out of the sky,
When the clouds were all at rest.

I'd wreck great ships, if they crossed my path,
With all the souls on board,
Wretched, but not so wretched as I,
In the judgements of the Lord.

And then, maybe, I'd choose out one
   With his floating yellow hair,
And save him, for being like my love,
   In the days when I was fair;

In the days when I was fair and young,
   And innocent and true;
And then, perhaps, I'd give him a kiss,
And drown him in the blue,

In the blue, blue sea, too good to live
In a world so rotten and bad:
I think I'd like to be a witch,
To save me from going mad."—AnonThe incredible painting "Sea Witch" by the incredible illustrator and concept artist Adrien Amilhat.
