We are so screwed with this bill. The NIH budget has not gone down as long as I’ve been in science and it’s being cut 40%. I cannot get over this. It’s the end of scientific research as we’ve known it.

I am devastated that the republicans passed this bill. There is so much wrong with it. But, I am dwelling on the economic repercussions of cutting the NIH budget (which comprises less than 1% of the budget) by 40%. Why did so few republicans pay attention to the serious problems with it?

Thanks for posting. The approach that is being taken for grants that were already scored is entirely unfair. Changes in policy should be discussed openly and there needs to be a transition period during which prior agreements and RFAs are honored.
