Sea ice in the Arctic and around Antarctica cool our climate, drive ocean circulation across the planet, and provide a unique habitat for polar ecosystems. Sea ice amounts have now fallen to their lowest since we started measuring them. This is not good. 🌊🥼❄️🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

World's sea-ice falls to record low
The world's frozen oceans keep the planet cool, but they currently have less ice than ever recorded before.

📣New article! Elemental salinity proxies were tested in North America (Lake Superior, Chesapeake Bay, Gulf of Mexico), northern Europe (Baltic Sea) and Argentina (Laguna Mar Chiquita). 🧪The proxies generally predict salinity well. Yet, care must also be taken www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Super excited to share our latest on CO2’s role in geological climate change! Using boron isotopes in ~300 million year old brachiopod shells, we show that rising CO2 from volcanic emissions drove a profound change in climate that ended the Late Palaeozoic Ice Age ⚒️🧪🌊 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Instead of listing my publications, as the year draws to an end, I want to shine the spotlight on the commonplace assumption that productivity must always increase. Good research is disruptive and thinking time is central to high quality scholarship and necessary for disruptive research.
