Hi everyone!! It's nearing the start of a new month and I regretfully am going to ask for help with my monthly meds again. They're just under $465 each month. It's a ludicrous amount, but that's life in America without insurance. PayPal: www.paypal.com/paypalme/Kri... ko-fi: ko-fi.com/wizardlizzer

Another old FFXIVWrite prompt for your maintenance reading pleasure. It was fun to look at a place like Halitali and pull together snippets form EE, MSQ events, and Strix's history

The bile came up in her throat before her eyes could adjust to the lack of light. Strix planted her feet, took a deep breath, and willed herself to be still.

The An’belah had a superstitious saying that they invoked on the incredulous, the cynical, and those present when swearing a solemn oath. “May the scales balance.” When the teeth of endless sand and wind and Azeyma’s merciless, unblinking eye lay bare my bones, my deeds, the ghost of my every thought, when my heart is extracted from my ribs and weighed against her falcon-feather fan, on pain of alienation from the great river of life and total obliteration, may no evil weigh it down. May no guilt or regret tip the pans. May the scales balance.

In the wake of its post-Calamity decommission, the Sultana was entertaining proposals for repurposing Halitali. She’d asked Strix for her opinion. Strix had demurred that the Sultana ought to use her best judgment regarding the interest of the commonweal. The sultana had for her part very graciously ordered Strix to stop being a stubborn piece of shit, admit that she had a personal stake in the proceedings, and give her honest, conscientiously-considered opinion. So here she was.

She didn’t remember much of her prior visit here, not in schematic detail at any rate. Only that weeks of fear, anger, and crushing, astronomical internal pressure finally had a useful outlet. She stepped through the remains of a three-ilm-thick bulkhead door, frozen in the moment of exploding outward. The walls to either side were scored and streaked with black from flying, superheated debris, some of it formerly sentient.

This cave complex had been a sacred precinct for the first Lalafell to land in Thanalan. The scratches and grooves from their tools and ochre-limbed handprint signatures in barely-accessible corners remained as testament. The Belah’dians had conducted rites there, illuminating the darkness of a succession crisis and schism by knowledge gained and faith strengthened down in the deep. Some popular folklore built to tie together past and present insisted that, when negotiation and deliberation failed, the children of Belah had gathered in the caves to settle their suits in ritual combat. Battles fought here in the Warden’s sight were sanctified; the righteous party would surely triumph.

May the scales balance.

The first gladiatoral games had been held there some four centuries ago, violent spectacle sponsored by wealthy patrons as one course of many in lavish funeral feasts. Give Nald’thal his due in the hope that he and his sleepless, unseeing legion don’t seize you or yours instead, and that when he finally does, there will be no pain in death. Slake the dead on the blood of the dying.

May the scales balance.

A succession of convicts of crimes large and small, political prisoners, refugees, and other “undesirables” had filtered through these caves in the intervening generations, like water through an aquifer. They were no more noted, and given no better accommodation than the beasts they were fated to fight. Were those “sentenced to the games,” assured that Azeyma’s guarantee of justice applied to them as well? The fixed matches and collusion, the profit pocketed mainly by arms that had never borne the weight of a secutor’s shield, would they answer for their part? Those circumstances had turned out two of the gentlest, most compassionate men she knew, but in spite, not because of them.

May the scales balance.

She thought of Yuyuhase and Laurentius, who had taken their misfortune and the several inflection points where they could have chosen to correct their courses, and out of impatience or fear or sordid self-interest, had bent every one of them to grinding their heels into the backs of other peoples’ heads.

May the scales balance.

She thought of Ilberd. Thought of his insistence that she, like him, like all of them, was a tool in the hands of others, fecklessly doing as she was bidden. She didn’t need life advice from a man who sermonized about the matchless purity of his motivations, only to cut himself down small enough to fit into Lolorito’s pocket, but she thought of him all the same.

She remembered now with a clarity that cut, how she’d fit against Raubahn’s side in the space vacated by his stolen left arm, frantically dumping aether into the voids in cracked ribs, torn sinews, and traumatized lungs. How, even then, even as he promised an eventual reckoning, he had twisted around to interpose his body between her and the kinsman unembarassed to bray about his singular faith while deliberately, systematically inflicting those injuries over weeks.

If she had pushed Raubahn aside and let Ilberd have every bit of the fire she’d been struggling to contain since that one bad night in the Chamber of Rule, there might never have been a Shinryu for Papalymo to sacrifice his life to contain, or for Zenos to commandeer. She would be wrestling with her own choices in those moments for as long as she drew breath.

May the scales balance.

Maybe, though, if she’d given vent to her rage, she’d have only brought the whole weight of Halitali down on their heads. And maybe a small, insidious part of her wanted to do that now, as little change as it would make in what had transpired.

She turned about and headed for the exit. The question would have to wait for some time to deliberate and a clearer head.

May the scales balance.

Pipes burst. Had to update our GoFundMe to reflect the plumber's quotes because we cannot afford the repair for our broken pipes. No running water in almost 11 days straight now. Please donate if possible, we really need the help more than ever before. Posted an update on the GFM gofund.me/a00878d9

Well. It was sure a month last month. We had a lot of donations and we're both extremely grateful for the support. Unfortunately, while we had reached $3805, the deep freeze from a couple weeks back absolutely ruined our home's water supply and pipes. I have since contacted a plumber to get the breadth of damage and well, yeah, it's bad. We're looking at something around $1200-1600 minimum and that's if we go without the plumber's recommended heat tape. We've not had running water for up to almost 11 days straight now, and it's genuinely miserable and awful. We have to raise a lot more money now to afford this repair :( so I've shifted the fundraiser goal from $5885 to $8385 to reflect the changes. Included are the plumber's quotes on the repair and damage, as well as the different quotes I got for the repairs. Please help us in this horrible, awful time. :(

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last. Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

Posted an update over on the GoFundMe!! The automated goal has shot from 2400 to 2800, we're trying to raise a total of 5885. It's to pay our attorney legal fees while we fight for our home in court, and to buy a new computer after the legal fees are paid. It's an emergency!!! gofund.me/28fcefae

Hello everyone!

Update time.

We paid our attorney with what we have gathered so far back in Dec 31st. We still owe the remaining balance. It still -needs- to be paid despite our attorney fighting for our legal fees. That being said, our attorney's services are still retained for now.

I'm still looking for a new job, haven't had much luck yet, so right now we're very much relying on the help from this to get us through the month on top of paying our attorney.

I'm also having trouble figuring out how to crop images for this update because every time I try it like hyper zooms up to one specific part, so I apologize for not showing an image of the receipt attached!!! I'll try and figure it out more soon.

Last thing to mention is that this still remains an emergency and time sensitive, the sooner we pay it, the better. And for the love of God, I genuinely seriously need a new computer. Even my phone is starting to go now, and I know this sounds frivolous but I am a writer and rely on it in this modern age day.

Thank you everyone for your time and seriously thank you so, so, so, so so incredibly much for helping us already reach over 2k. We have another 3k to go.
