These simple but beautiful Georgian (1714-1830) nutcrackers belonged to my grandparents, parents, & now me. They have possibly been passed down through my family from when they were new. They are reversible, to crack different sized nuts. What are your family heirlooms?

We are looking at the Great Hall on a sunny bright afternoon. The medieval oak frame roof soars upwards and glows in browns, oranges and gold. The sun can be seen streaming through the Georgian sash windows creating puddles of light on the pine and pitch pine floors.

English place names ending in 'by' were Viking settlements. The 'by' ending denotes a Danish/Norse farm. Places with the 'by' ending such as Derby, Corby, Selby, Oadby and Hemsby predominantly exist today within the boundaries of the Danelaw agreed in AD 878.

This Army birthday I’m thinking of Medal of Honor recipient Pvt Henry Johnson of the 369th NY National Guard (known as the Harlem Hellfighters). The 369th served more days in the WWI trenches than an other US unit, took more casualties also. DOD just stripped Johnson’s name off Ft. Polk.
