I wouldn't normally keep a generic wrist band from a gig but it was Saint Etienne's final show so I'll make an exception.

No, AI, it really doesn't.
Image search result that states "This image shows English musician and former Beatle John Lennon on the cover artwork for his iconic 1971 solo album Imagine."The actual image of an item from Temu that features a mocked up album cover with a photo that looks more like Warren Zevon than John Lennon.

Plus this arrived today courtesy of an eBay auction that closed at about a quarter of the album's market value. I saw this band stacks of times in the early 90s.

Three 3 pounders. Hoping First Take is less crackly than my previous chazza copy.
3 LPs. £3 each. Tears For Fears - The Hurting; Roberta Flack - First Take; Sammy Davis Jr - Sammy Steps Out (worth it for the cover image alone).

It was the price of the Dire Straits tape that jumped out first, but then ... 😮 It does possibly have *some* value as it appears to only have been released once on tape and there's one listed for almost double on Discogs (no past sales). But still. 💰
Two tapes in a locked cabinet in Oxfam. VBO Dire Straits for £19.99 and Transition by John Coltrane for £75.

Found myself behind a known eBay flipper in the chazzas today but not a problem as he: a. leaves behind things like this; b. uses eBay's AI generated descriptions on his listings which, for example, push the idea that a CD with an incomplete booklet is a collector's item.
808 State quadrastate CDAI generated item description:
The product is a CD titled "Stranded" by artist Tangier, released under ATCO Records. The CD is in English language and comes in a standard jewel case with very good condition. The incomplete booklet adds to the mystery and intrigue of the album, making it a collector's item for fans of Tangier or those interested in alternative music.

Two iconic sleeves. One locked cabinet. I didn't see how much No Parlez was but DSOTM was £130 and I don't believe it was a particularly rare pressing.
Locked cabinet of records in Oxfam including Dark Side Of The Moon and No Parlez.

"Like Mick Ronson on a Bowie rocker, mixed with something that might have been on the first album by The Records". Yeah, I'll take that (not that I can take credit for the guitar playing - I was merely rumbling away on the bass). 🎸

Up 3 places and into the top 5 on the latest Alt Universe Top 40. 🎸📻 johntmcmullan.substack.com/p/alt-univer...
Text from the Alt Universe Top 40 show transcript.

Here is a single that moves up three notches from last week by The Dulcet Tones, the group that recorded their most recent EP Back to Bassett at Studio 6, with some additional recording taking place at a location known as The Dynamite Jet Saloon. I can’t say I have ever heard of that particular studio, but, based on the guitar sound achieved on this track, I probably need to check it out and give them a visit myself. With a selection that appears to be headed to the very top soon, here they are, Dulcet Tones, and “As I Am.”

(play song)

With a hot one at #5, that was Andrew McLennan, Nick Osman, Darryl Wilks and Rob Cooper, collectively known as Dulcet Tones and “As I Am.”

Deadlight Dance New Single & Video
New single from our gothic duo Deadlight Dance, taken from March’s album Vox Populi…. Second tune on the album, a ballad to the poisonous evergreen shrub Daphne odora, which I classed as “a poignant plodding shoegazer.” The video looks very botanical and outdoorsy, I hope those goths wore sunscreen! Brilliant no-AI video, created by Haunting the Atom; fill your metal buckled chrome studded boots…… Oh, and find them doing it at The White Bear, Devizes on Sunday..

I'm declaring #vinylstupidity in this jigsaw. Everything points to an early 70s scene but has been somewhat let down by the record stall. Though I suppose it could be mid-90s Britpop-era.
York Market jigsaw, seemingly based on the early 1970s judging by the outfits. A Raleigh Chopper and Ford car also feature. Gene Hunt could probably have been included. There's a market stall selling records. Front and centre is David Bowie's Aladdin Sane, so all good so far ...Other records on show include Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970), Who's Next (1971), Dark Side Of The Moon (1973) ... but also Songs In The Key Of Life (1976), Rumours (1977) and, most damning, Off The Wall (1979).

Have recently been to France and did the now traditional "go to FNAC and take a punt on some albums" purchase. Opted for CDs as the vinyl equivalent of these would have involved risking about €80 rather than €14. #nowplaying

I bought MrsW one of these from, I think, Past Times in the early 90s. It still has the stock photo inside, which we just ran a Google Lens search against that brought up this listing. It really isn't from 1928. 🤣
