May 13, 2026PRESS EVENT IN SOLIDARITY WITH FIRED ROSE LANE WORKERS—Contact: Restaurant Workers Union, Local 1, rwu.str@gmail.com, (347) 441-0705Date: May 20, 2026Time: 12:30 pmLocation: 36 Central Park South, New York, NY, 10019, outside the Park Lane HotelRestaurant Workers Union - Sindicato de Trabajadores de Restaurantes (RWU-STR) and fired Rose Lane workers will be holding a press event outside Park Lane Hotel, 36 Central Park South, on Wednesday, May 20, 12:30 pm.It has been eight months since the Park Lane Hotel, owned by the Qatari Investment Authority (purchased from the Witkoff Group in 2023), illegally fired dozens of workers at two hotel restaurants in order to destroy a unionization campaign at Rose Lane Restaurant that enjoyed over 80% worker support. The Park Lane Hotel has refused to cooperate with the U.S. federal investigation led by the NLRB. Last month, their legal team filed papers petitioning the 3-member Board in Washington, DC to revoke the investigative subpoenas issued in this case. The hotel owners have flatly ignored demands for reinstatement, back pay, and union recognition directed at them in a letter signed by prominent politicians, including a member of the US House of Representatives, the Manhattan borough president, a state assembly member, and various state senators and city council members.Settlement negotiations have been ongoing for months, and Park Lane Hotel continues to drag its feet.Meanwhile, unemployment insurance has run out, and many of the workers find themselves in an increasingly-desperate situation. A former bartender remarks:“I was fired for exercising my federal right to request union recognition. Instead of following the law, the Park Lane hotel fired myself and my coworkers. It's been eight months and the NLRB has yet to charge the company. As a result, I had to drain my 401K savings just to make ends meet. Other workers have done the same.”The workers and union are demanding reopening, right of first refusal, backp…

Salute on May Day from Unions of Our Own 😊🚩🏴
Screenshot black text, white background: No occasion or symbol in labor is more commemorated by
working people in every corner of the globe than May Day. In Mex-
ico, Bolivia, Vietnam, Korea, Ghana, Egypt, Italy, Australia—and I
could go on and on—working people take to the streets to advance
labor’s cause and to recall a struggle that took place in the late 1800s.
These incredible risings on May 1, International Workers’ Day, are
occasioned by a union-building effort, a tough and protracted one to
say the least.4screenshot black text on white background: Workers in Chicago were resisting the dehumanization they
were experiencing amid the aggressive rise of industrial capitalism.
In this cauldron, workers at International Harvester, the dominant
manufacturer of the equipment used on farms, were forming a union.
A rally took place in Chicago’s Haymarket Square in solidarity with
the workers’ strike.
The tension was high because the International Harvester cam-
paign had connections to a broader movement for a worker-centered
society to replace capitalism. Violence broke out at Haymarket andscreenshot of black text on white background: radical unionists were framed for it. The state executed four of them—
the Haymarket martyrs who are honored each year on May 1.
You want to talk about protracted union campaigns? It took fifty
years. But workers did ultimately prevail and form a sustainable union
at International Harvester. All the while they held aloft the martyrs of
Haymarket and the global solidarity ethos of the first of May.5

Black text on white, highlighted in blue reads: Our findings strongly suggest that unions increase the life

There's so much to say about this. Workers and their unions were early, very early on this. The global justice movement hit it right on the head. The Democratic Party took the exact opposite position. When neoliberalism became completely untenable, Trump moved first. Huge part of his victories.

Workers organized in unions have long been at the forefront of taking on fascism. These are workers from the CNT-FAI taking on Franco in Spain. @sununion.org is in motion and very able to support anti-fascist workers looking to form or advance unions. Get on the bus, no pun intended, haha.
