Shocking isn't it? Massive price hikes that many assume are a bubble puts ankers on spending. I too am keeping my GPU limping along until the prices drop because what was a debatable proposition (at best) at 1.2K is complete insanity at 1.8K

This is all very awkward... because what is "out of bounds"? Things that are OK in the USA can be very different from things that are OK in other countries.

This is the kind of misinformed trash talk that brings all your other posts into question. Every rocket prior to SpaceX had this ending (well, worse really since they didn't even control where they hit). Chinese rockets do it with extremely toxic fuels over populated areas too.

I, for one, fully assume they have a few orbiting up there treaties be damned. It's a "they can so they probably have" situation.

It's a loop basically, the "agent" program takes a prompt like "solve this problem" and asks the llm how to do it, then does what it asks, gives it the output, asks what next, does it, around and around until the problem is solved. The only human interaction was the first step defining the problem.

It's always amusing when people assume the thing they are most interested in must be common knowledge because they know it. Sadly, no, many of us don't pay the slightest attention to the that thing, just as they don't pay attention to our things either.

Are you ready? Are you SURE? Okay... remember you said so. The meaning of life is math: M is the 13th letter of the alphabet. A is the 1st letter of the alphabet. T is the 20th letter of the alphabet. H is the 8th letter of the alphabet. 13+1+20+8=42

Yeah, might be true indeed. Personally I'm on the fence about AI. It lets me get a lot done very quickly but also does it's absolute best to derail me and add insane complexity where a trivial solution would suffice. I think it's probably a net positive and I love it's rubber-duck impression. Hmm.

True, but I assume _eventually_ those costs will be passed on to the consuming companies so then it will be a direct local cost. My quandary is whether that will ultimately be cheaper. Right now AI companies are bleeding money internally trying to find a route to profitability, but long term?

🌍 Duncan Kimpton 🛠️ @dgkimpton.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
The question is... is the AI actually cheaper than the human by the time hardware maintenance and true runtime costs (electricity, cooling, facilities, etc) are factored in?

Same with software - different acronyms same implausible skill set requirements. I can only assume most applicants don't have anywhere near the full set, are super human, or maybe I'm just a degenerate human 🤷

Depends on what I'm looking at. Some of my favourite vids are a coding guy who just puts plain green title text in his thumbs. No bullshit. I'm, unfortunately, far more likely to overlook entertainment focused content with a bad or AI thumbnail. There's too much choice and no other distinguisher 🤷

one of the first things we noticed when prototyping Budget Cuts, was that violence in VR feels *weirdly* real, and it's the reason why we decided on only having robot enemies

Violence in VR might actually negatively affect people the way the media liked to claim early violent videogames did. Sadly they've cried wolf so hard no one will listen again. I guess we'll just have to see what an entire generation trained to feel nothing whilst killing moms in supermarkets does 😬

Only brainwashed Americans could believe that "personalised pricing" would ever be in the consumers best interest. The *only* reason companies would pursue it would be to increase profits.

The idea that we have a privacy right to not be recorded has long stopped having any meaning. Between doorbell cameras, dashcams, smartphone cameras, drone cameras, and cctv cameras there's precious few times one isn't being recorded. It's hard to imagine glasses cameras make it meaningfully worse.

SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

Every industry has it's one core tool that holds it back, for me it's Solidworks. For my colleagues it's Excel (& all the custom apps built on top). There's always something that causes Windows lock-in. Starting from scratch one could probably use Linux and never fall into the trap. Too late for me😢

I just posted a blog post on my hyperbezier curve: linebender.org/blog/hyperbe... I've actually been working on this for years, and only recently figured out a solution to the parameter mapping problem. I think this curve is potentially better than cubic Béziers for 2D vector graphic design.
A plot of two roughly S-shaped curves. In gray is a cubic Bézier, and the Bézier control points are shown. In blue is an example of the hyperbezier, with roughly similar shape but much smoother curvature variation. There is also a "curvature comb" in green.

I wonder if they ever got paid? Certainly seems like they deserve some compensation, sadly the person who made the original choice probably experienced zero consequences whatsoever and bumbled along in life thinking they were great.
