I've heard of specialist AI, focused on domains with tons of training data, like law or finance. Supposed to be smaller, faster, cheaper to train. Possibly better answers? And routers directing prompts to other AI's for reasons. So, where are more focused models? Are big LLM's the only best way?

If you are MacArthur Fellow nominators, here's one who fits this criteria: "Spotlight the value of risk-taking in addressing deep-rooted societal problems" His work has made him the lead chronicler of the energy transition, documenting a future being built by people today. So, get to it.

In the future shit will be better. Lets maybe start with formatting communications so they aren't just repeating the same words 3 times as title, headline, then first lines of article. That would be a better future.

Little owl making whinnying noises. Expect the big owls to chime in like tubas shortly. Whinnying has changed to 5 second trilling. Saturday night and somebody's looking to start something. Pretty noisy for a bird a little bigger than a pint glass.

I'm in the garage, and hear a squirrel running down the roof, and then a big thump. Red tailed hawk, now eating a squirrel on the roof. Serpentine, buddy.

LLM's are static, stateless, and have no method of action. LLM's have no memory, and are unaware of any other input. Software rewrites your input, and rewrites output, to simulate continuity. Software takes actions and uses tools. Not models. Where is consciousness seated? Is it code or model?

The storm reports, people fleeing islands out east reminds me that research has found ways to make homes more resilient. Strapping roof, walls, and footings. Window design and install methods increase integrity. Framing to prevent racking. A home you feel barely enduring a storm is terrifying.

Along with "can LLM informed software run safely?", let's add another question. Can networked systems be secured? It feels like they can't be, as generally operated in the wild. Negligence exists, and also highest levels of security. But systems in between, with average staff? Your confidence?

I remember, in 2009, when recovery from bubble was so important, we were told one thing constantly. Business hates uncertainty. It freezes investment, purchasing, hiring, everything, like us at a grocery store. They needed certainty, or else. Now, no one says that. Amid chaos! Fucking liars.

Some dismiss rooftop solar since it's not systemic scale. I see it reduce demand, and can delay(or kill) a need to upgrade substations and distribution. It can extend service life of the existing grid, saving system cost. Scale is real, no denying it. But oceans are also made of drops of water.

Concerned about data centers being built in your rural area? Check a grid map. Data centers love power, and you might be surprised what's nearby. Looking at you, Toledo, IL, for example, in this map.

Oh, Axios. "For 20 years tax us at 150% of all current county taxes collected, eliminating local property taxes, and pay indexed $5K/y to each household." Rural county south of me is 4,276 households. $20M/y. County revenue is $6M/y. Try that message, AI CEO's. My consulting fee is $1M/y.
Axios article quote

"Why it matters: Republicans and AI CEOs are in full panic mode watching politicians and the public turn on the physical engines of AI growth. In private, they tell us they can't find a compelling message to shift opinion fast enough."

I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to restore the taskbar battery icon in W11 (forcible install on a junk computer used for one application) and just stopped because it was so apocalyptically kafkaesque. Couldn't even muster the give a shit to fight. Just to scan my truck's error codes.

I think everyone is overlooking that while Trump was smuggled out of danger, at least the decoys got to be in the real Air Force One, with the defensive systems, instead of the Qatari gift jet, which is mostly a paint job.

This sounds like an expensive system to replace two baggage handlers.
An “autonomous baggage loading” system has to be added to reduce the reliance on foreign ground crews.

That a solar panel makes real electricity isn't intuitive. Electricity needs vast infrastructure. Networks of pipelines, mile wide coal pits. Even hydro is dramatic. All visible work, to make watts. A panel is static, and also makes watts. It is a sly and epic creation, a great accomplishment.

Big Tech leaders say they love nuclear power. The last US nuclear plant built came online in 2024, costing $15B. That's 1.5% of Musk's $1T net worth. Why is he not building three of them? Is nuclear too expensive and slow for even him and the AI companies? They don't believe their own BS.

The last nuclear reactor built in the US cost $15B. Elon Musk can buy 3 with 5% of his net worth and earn profits(advocates say). What explains nuclear's inability to find buyers in a market flooded with maniacs and money for the most energy hungry product in history? Coffee is for closers.

Data center PPA contracts buy future power, so less power is for sale. Power prices rise, like RAM prices rose 4x when they bought it. Prices rise for phones, computers, anything w/RAM. They buy cheap clean power we paid to help build. You get to bid on the leftovers. They drink your milkshake.

Let's stop calling solar, wind, batteries, and pumped hydro names like renewables, or clean, or green, or anything like that. Let's name them accurately. The cheapest electricity.

dgglynn @dgglynn.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
Solar makes the cheapest power. Cheap surplus solar in batteries is driving gas plants off the grid. Burning nothing. The global transition to the cheapest, cleanest electricity ever made, abundant everywhere, is happening now. Not grim austerity and constraints. And it will change the world.

One person could pay for all annual global fossil fuel spending. Wells, mines, storage facilities, refineries, pipelines, ships, trains, millions of people, billions of barrels, cubic feet, and tons a day. The largest industry in history. All of it. One person. That's the scale of a trillion.

Stop saying they've spent $30B in the war with Iran. They stated $25B in the first days of bombing, in February. Nobody has given an updated accounting of spending. There's an aircraft carrier group out there. It was more than $30B 3 months ago.
