its 5 o’clock somewhere
White broad strokes cut the toned tan page into three regions - one in the bottom left and the remaining regions split by a curve from center to top right. Blunt sienna bar cantilevers out from just below center right edge, like a geometric eyebrow over a brown blotted eye. Sharpie ink lines point away from the blot to the left. A cerulean arc crossed top to bottom, overwriting the white strokes, but merging at the root. A cloud of sienna and sharpie sits over the arc on bottom left, puzzling. Over the brown bar shoots try to emerge from horizontal black gates, and one shoot extends out and crosses the white boundary into a sunset haze of blended pastels, where it branches into palm fronds, breaking out of the toned paper monotone of the rest of the image.

Playing with color today - I’m usually timid with colors because of my red green color blindness. So trying to push it and find forms and shapes and relationships without needing the backbone of the sharpie lines

Today’s view over the reservoir
Sky dappled with clouds, the sun rises over the tree line, rays shooting through the clouds. The water of the reservoir reflects the morning scene with clarity. In the foreground the wildflowers poke up as silhouettes against the reflection.

Chris Taylor @dftchemist.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
another sharpie and chalk pastel
Magnum + king sharpie doodle on butcher paper- key shaped object sitting proudly on the page- jagged teeth to the right side, pink licks curving out to the left with coral bursts of light streaking from top left to bottom right. A diagonal cursive line from bottom left to top right cutting the key from scarlet to titanium white and the background crossing across the diagonal from an apricot to a hot pink.

mixing the sharpie doodles on butcher paper with chalk pastels
Golden swirl in the top left interacting with purple dreamscape, pathways of gold and purple bands radiating out interleaved with purple bands with white dots. A broad ribbon scrolls across the midsection of the piece with spider like forms curling at the edge of the ribbon and mirroring a purple and white cloud formation in the sky - the beams radiating out strike against an orange hillock at the bottom right with a portal that gapes open like a mouth, filled with checkered pattern and two dark eyes with parallel slanting eyebrows above the maw. The piece dances with gold and purple, with orange anchoring the hillock and white accents against the black linework

Trying to learn how to scale my notebook doodles up to bigger canvas by practicing with magnum sharpie on butcher paper. Very different feel and approach to composition then the more intimate doodling

I start reading 2666 on my flight to London yesterday. Interestingly enough, one of the scholars in the novel spends time walking around Kensington gardens, which naturally is what I then spent time doing this afternoon. Life is so full of coincidences

Tonight pre-baking watermelon “tuna” to marinate overnight and then use for nigiri. Also plan on cooking up some eggplant “unagi” to go with
Chunky blocks of watermelon slices cut up and set on a baking sheet with parchment paper about to go into the oven to prep ahead for vegan style “tuna” nigiri.

First attempt at vegan quiche. it’s setting up. This one has a macadamia nut base with spinach. Making aquafaba was fun. it’s not looking incredibly fluffy and I was too lazy to make a crust. Tasting updates to follow!
Macadamia nut base quiche made with spinach and aquafaba. In a beautiful blue pie dish. No crust. The appearance is a bit “matte” or chalky- not what I expected!

Next on my to read list- Greg Egan‘s Perihelion Summer I’ve enjoyed Egan since I picked up Perturbation City back in 1999 at the Uni of Western Australia bookstore. I’d never read sci-fi that was so hard on the Science piece before.

My first Secrets of Power deck build. Sly Moore yellow. I’m just a kitchen table player so limited to the cards I get in my boosters. My son always plays Vader Command - very aggressive and lots of resource and card drawing. This deck held up pretty well winning 31/22. #swu

Apple pie season is here… today’s recipe had me brushing down the crust with heavy whipping cream, something I’d not done before.
First lovely golden brown apple pie of the season with puffy crispy crust!
I’d meant to add raspberries but forgot, so I’ll have to make another soon.

Finally got a case for all my Star Wars unlimited cards - now to figure out the perfect way to sort them all (I fear there is no perfect way but maybe some are better than others)
Card case with Star Wass unlimited box covers in the five panel windows n the case front showing Thrawn, General Grievous, Yoda, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. There is a pink case next to it that contains playing mats and instruction sets with the Fight Rebel Resist Resistance logo on the front.

Laying in a hammock, looking up through the trees is literally my most favorite thing … at Quarry Trails Metro park
Blue sky with a little haze of cloud behind maple and a couple other trees I can’t identify- taken from a hammock staring up through the intermeshed branches and dappled sunlight on the leaves.

Plenty of “jack in the pulpit” today out in the woods at Hogback Ridge park
Jack in the pulpit- Ohio wildflower with a “pitcher plant” style flower covered with a leaf overhang. It’s about 6-10” tall and accompany by an adjacent stem usually having three leaves. This is by the base of a shag bark hickory, which is usually where I find them.

What did I find (rind?)? @ Char Mar ridge park, Galena Ohio
Tree with a sign in front of it saying "you found it" or maybe "you round it"- the F is not clearly crossed, so ambiguous. The tree base is circled with nice little pointed exposed roots like a birds foot.
