There are crosses on top of each tower, and a third cross visible above the side of the building away from the camera. There is a plain door in the center of the building, and there is a small square window above the door. Except for the openings in the bell towers there are no other windows visible giving the building a stark appearance. There is a wall extending from the right front of the building that obscures the bottom half of that side of the building.

The foreground is filled by the roof of a low building. The middle of the image is a row of low buildings on a street with a couple of cars parked by the buildings. The buildings are dwarfed by the church. Down the left side of the picture the edge of the mesa and the desert landscape beyond it are visible.

The sky is dotted with cumulus clouds.

A monochrome image of a deserted church building. The building is a plain rectangular wooden building with a steeple rising from the front end of the roof ridge. It looks like the steeple at one time may have housed a bell. The sloped roof is covered in light colored shingles, and there is a large hole in the roof. At one time the horizontal wood siding was painted white, but the paint is almost weathered away. There are six tall windows evenly spaced across the side of the building. The building rests on concrete blocks; 13 of them are evenly spaced down the side of the structure. The front of the church is on the right side of the image. There is an awning and concrete steps with a metal hand rail. The deep blue sky reads as black in the monochrome image. The churchyard is close cut grass. There is a row of trees behind the church.

A color image of an ancient decaying moss covered stump next to 2 large ferns. Sunlight is filtered through the canopy of the deep redwood forest. The filtered light is highlighting the edges of the moss on the jagged edges of the stump and revealing all the shades of green in the ferns. The forest provides the background of the image.

The Mind Parasites by Colin Wilson was written in 1967. It’s about telepathy and telekinesis. If I recall correctly, there is a discussion of psychiatry, but I read the book a long time ago.

I think your crop was better. As I recall, I was focused on limiting clutter from the background at the time. I could have edited it better. Editing iPhone pictures on my iPad, I tend to be less careful than when I am editing on my desktop in Lightroom.
