I was just telling someone the other day how my primary school music teacher used the Beatles to teach us music theory (1983 ish), and told us about this (and more)!

I have a concert next Tuesday, 20th October. Three pieces connected by the end of WWII: Britten’s Four Sea Interludes, Korngold’s Violin Concerto and Martinů’s Fourth Symphony. All wonderful pieces of music. In particular, the Martinů is an undervalued masterpiece. Do come!

We were watching flamingos in the Camargue last week, and wondering what it's like with a neck so long it makes an s-bend.

During the Neolithic across Britain there was a decline of fish consumption in favour of plant based foods and terrestrial animals. There is 1 example of an Iron Age woman from Orkney who had a marine based diet - not sure where the research is at these days. Interesting topic!

My grandparents had a refrigerator that was a box in the kitchen wall with an insulated , and my grandfather had some how built the mechanical/electrical bits that sat on a table in the woodshed next door. I wish I had a photograph of it.

I don't know why it's moreso at Christmas for me rather than Easter, but every year I am struck anew by just how astonishing Christianity must have been to people 2000 years ago, and how hard it is to follow the messages of love, hope, forgiveness, generosity, humility etc - but worthwhile to try.

Ireland is part of the archipelago of islands called the British Isles, it is not part of Great Britain, the British Islands, or the UK.

Having been sat around tables in UK unis actively trying to stop people wasting money on technology white elephants, I suspect there is a lot of careerism, group think, bike-shedding, and adrenalin rushes from spending lots of money on cool, shiny things.

He's correct. The archipelago also includes IoM but not the Channel Islands* which are lumped under the British Islands, not Isles, and does not include RoI. *I think people often file them under British Isles, as well. It's all very confusing.
