for #mxtxtober26 day 2: water - inspired by this bit from chapter 6 of the fic Clear Water by heavensturtle: archiveofourown.org/works/343376... - the food #xielian is feeding them is fish stew that he made that turned into meatballs (thank you to penguin for this idea) #hehualian #huaxuanlian

grayscale digital art of xie lian standing on the beach of he xuan's island, tossing a meatball that a small bone fish is leaping out of the water to eat, with another, larger bone fish peeking out of the water off to the side

snippet from chapter 6 of Clear Water by heavensturtle, reading:

They entered the library, Hua Cheng following after Xie Lian and looking a little sheepish. They both sat down near He Xuan, Xie Lian on a low stool and Hua Cheng on the ground in front of him.

“This Tan Hua apologizes, didi, he was a bit upset with some useless trash pretending to be a food vendor.”

He Xuan startled at the image of Hua Cheng apologizing to him within his own home. It was, after all, none of He Xuan’s business how Hua Cheng ran his affairs.

He schooled his expression and nodded. “Was it for your feast tomorrow?”

“Ah, no,” Xie Lian rubbed his neck and looked at the fire, “I was apparently paying too much for the food for your bone dragons.”

“You were being kind, gege, it was that trash that took advantage of your good nature.” Hua Cheng pulled Xie Lian’s hand down to his lips and kissed it.

He Xuan gawked. “You… what?” he asked.

Hua Cheng gave He Xuan a small smile, a little sad.

Xie Lian responded, still sounding embarrassed, “Well—you had disappeared, and San Lang was gone, so there was no one around to take care of them besides me. And no matter where I looked I couldn’t find Qingxuan, so… it was a good way to fill my time.”

a weird looking fish #mxtxtober26 day 2: water

digital art of He Xuan peeking out of a body of water at night. only the top of his head is visible, his yellow irises glowing unnaturally. he is staring at the viewer intensely and looking quite unsettling. his hair almost looks to be melting into the water, blackening it around him.

i probably won’t complete many of these, but i was inspired by angst 🥲 #mxtxtober26 day one: flower #tgcfspoilers

Digital painting of young Hua Cheng dying on the battlefield. His bandages are coming undone and there’s red flowers growing from his right eye. Two arrows stick from his chest. There are red flowers bordering the piece.

Alternate version because I had to go back and make him look Big 🙂‍↕️ #KnifesArt

The above art but with He Xuan's robes melting into the water around him, where you can see tiny ships being tossed around in the waves

Ko-fi sketch comm for @devoted-believer.bsky.social of He Xuan being a lovable Eldrich Horror I forgot how much I love drawing spooky things, and this is a perfect start to spooky season I think, I love how he came out! #KnifesArt

He Xuan from the side, looking half skeletal, wearing raggedy robes and his hair is wet and stringy. His ears are fin shaped and his eye sockets are mostly hollow, other than white circles that give the impression of him looking at you. His facial skin is a little torn, the sight of his teeth through it looking a bit like a smirk. The arm that you can see is skeletal, and there is a large skeletal fish behind him.
