Monster in the house. (She's outside now. Feisty AF though. Had to use a salad bowl instead of a glass, she ran around it like a motorbike on a wall of death.)
A massive spider (by European standards) on an inside wall in my house. Close up on the massive spider (by European standards) on an inside wall in my house.

A still from the 1970s folk horror The Wicker Man, with a wild-looking Christopher Lee gesticulating in front of a giant... uh... wicker man... in which an authority figure is going to be burned to death.

Its relevance to the proposal to erect a giant statue in Dublin? You decide.

The open beta is live. It's pretty good, I think. It's an interactive celtic noir crime novel. Which I suppose means it's an interactive novel set in Ireland, there's crime involved, and the tone is a little bit heightened. devinho.itch.io/kingdom
The title page of my interactive novel. It reads:

There Is a Kingdom
by Devin Doyle

Episode 1
Isolation

> Open beta, August 2026.

During the week I'll be launching the open beta of the first slice of an interactive fiction piece I've written, and I'd love you to read it. DM me for the link if you want advance access. /

Didn't put a writing desk in yet. But we will!
The bathroom alcôve with a little sitting area with two turn-of-the-century armchairs and fancy schmancy chandeliers. The bathroom sink unit, which is black and gold with parrots on. Which sounds awful, I know. But it's not, I swear. The end of the bed and the very tall window beyond. The sitting alcôve with mood lighting.

Got a third chambre d'hote ready. Bathroom's kinda cool, will post photos later. This one will have a writing desk all of its own.
The queen-sized bed in our nicest chambre d'hote in our 19th-Century presbytery in western France that was built in 1869 on the orders of the empress Eugénie, wife of Napoléon III.

Not that we're in favour of the monarchy.

Or the Church, for that matter. The queen-sized bed in our nicest chambre d'hote in our 19th-Century presbytery in western France that was built in 1869 on the orders of the empress Eugénie, wife of Napoléon III. Also featured is the fancy chandelier and the very nice tall window (although it's closed and shuttered as it's hot today).

We finished another room. Pretty proud of this one too. Three people can stay in this one (as long as two are happy sharing a bed). Chambres d'hotes in western France, you say? Et voila.

We're doing chambres d'hote in our 19th-Century presbytery in western France*, and I'm pretty proud of the first room we've gotten fully finished. We're thinking writers' retreats in the off-season. *Not currently on fire.
The "Green Room" has an older-style wooden double bed, green walls (naturally) and an en-suite bathroom. It looks pretty classy, if I say so myself. The shower fits into an alcove, with the washstand - a sink that sits on a 100-year-old beside locker we found - at the door. Above it there's a mirror with an ornate oval frame, just don't tell anyone it's plastic.

1998 was a very odd year for me, so it's not surprising that I missed Pleasantville the first time around. I rectified that last night. Holy shit, what a film. Radical agitprop disguised as a mild-mannered fluffy Hollywood comedy. (Spoilers incoming...) /

I made this fifteen years ago. I remain stupidly proud of it.
A three-panel meme.

In the first, from Game of Thrones, the sly, untrustworthy Littlefinger, saying "I've brought you a gift."

In the second, from the same scene in Game of Thrones, Catelyn Stark, husband of the beheaded Ned Stark, lord of the north, asks "What's this?" as she's about to look in the bag.

In the third, we switch instead to Bruce Willis and Maria de Medeiros on Zed's chopper in Pulp Fiction, with the caption "Ned's head, baby. Ned's head."

My dad grew up in Howth in the 1950s. There was a gang of lads used to hang around at the harbour when they weren't employed, which was often. Back then everyone had The One Suit. Dark grey, a white shirt under it, a tie on special occasions, and if it was cold you'd put a jumper over the shirt. /
My grandfather Cyril Doyle, probably late 1950s or early 1960s. He's wearing his Sunday best - by which I mean he's added a tie to his usual suit/shirt/jumper/hat combo.
