The boisterous laughter of drunkards is merely tolerable at the best of times, but Kotokaze is well-practiced in keeping a pleasant smile in the face of annoyance. Less so, however, when those same drunkards keep poking the beast and insisting it make an appearance at their otherwise delightful gathering.

“You’re always so funny, Kotokaze,” one of them croons. “But seriously, we’ve known you for months now, and you haven’t even hinted at why you always wear that eyepatch!”

Her smile strains. “I’ve already told you, if I wanted you to see, I wouldn’t wear one.”

“Aw, c’mon.” Another one leans in far too close, the stink of whiskey invading her space. “We’ll tip you real good.”

“Just a peak. A tiny little one.” The first one offers a truly pathetic look. “Please?”

Kotokaze hums a light note, then unsheathes a knife from behind her back.

“I said.” She speaks through her teeth and stabs the knife’s tip into the counter, less than an ilm away from one of her harasser’s fingers. “No.”

Kotokaze’s pleasant smile doesn’t return until they flee the hostelry with their tails between their legs.

#xivwomenweek Stormblood has so many awesome female characters taking the stage! It was hard to pick a manageable number to draw! Here is Krile and Fordola.

#xivwomenweek day 3 • heavensward, return #ffxiv

The Caulignont manor has laid abandoned for some time. Bats making nests in the rafters, spiders and other many-legged things no longer feel the need to cower in corners and instead saunter with wild abandon across the filthy hardwood floor. The wood is eaten through by rot. Rugs reek of mildew. Wallpaper peels. Hinges creak.

Rielle grimaces. Much work will need to be done to make this place habitable again. Is it even worth the effort? Whatever love she had for this house died with the click of a lock.

In any case, she is not here to make appraisals. She navigates the manor’s dark corridors with little trouble, taking special care to avoid the new residents darting under her feet. Take a left here. Down the stairs one, two, three flights. It’s dismaying how easy it is still, after all these years.

Sooner than she’d hoped, she’s standing at the door. The room she expected to be her tomb lies just beyond. A simple push is all it takes.

The room is as small and cold as she’d remembered. Her bed, low to the ground and poorly made, is still tucked away in the far corner. A stool, a table. Child-sized with uneven legs that she’d never gotten used to. And that’s it.

Fury burns afresh in her chest. It never really leaves, just slumbers. But this time she intends to do something about it.

Rielle tightens her grip on the handle of a sledgehammer and swings.
