It‘s @cycletoronto.bsky.social lawn sign day! How convenient that it fits perfectly in my Bullitt! (Also I missed my 6km milestone, whoops.)

So, you can all blame @alexhanna.bsky.social, @emilymbender.bsky.social and @bcmerchant.bsky.social for this.

If there's a better example of the difference in where Canadian and US politics are today, I'd love to see it. Canada: We need to diversify trade and welcome investment. USA: Victims of bestiality can be FBI agents! My feed everybody:

Okay, but how the hell did a knock-off hyperloop project make it into the bundle of transportation projects:

Time to roll out this slide again (from my council deputation supporting the Dufferin bus lanes but equally applicable to active transportation infrastructure).

Also, since @juliedabrusin.bsky.social's account hasn't posted in 9 months, maybe write directly to the Minister? Seems like a good time to do it. [The "clear accessible facts" was a line from her office's generic reply about having a "conversation" about the island airport]
An e-mail to the Minister for the Environment:

Good morning Minister Dabrusin,
I want to ensure that my e-mail today is grounded in clear, accessible facts. The skies over Toronto are currently orange and we have registered the worst air quality in the world because of ongoing forest fires. I wanted to reiterate my view as a constituent who voted for you specifically in the last election that any Federal support for the expansion of a downtown airport to accommodate increased jet departures during a climate crisis is a complete abdication of your Government's responsibilities. It continues to make no sense to support a mode of transportation that will directly compete with your Government's high speed rail project that has been designated a project of national importance. If the Government continues to fail in its responsibility to take active steps to combat climate change. I will not vote for you, or your party, again. I will actively donate to, and campaign for, another party in the next election. These issues are too important to do otherwise.
Regards,

Normally I'd agree, but the split between her and Norm in the last election was 123 votes, and I don't think she's solidified her position particularly well among the progressive votes. Her resistance to the RapidTO plan feels like a weakspot to me.

Yeah, but they didn't shut it down because the water going IN was too hot. It was to protect the surrounding environment to avoid discharging water that was too hot. This was a regulatory limit, not a tech limit. www.euronews.com/2026/06/25/f...

It’s 1974, the Govt announces a HSR project of national importance during an oil crisis. There are protests against Alto & TGV. It’s 2026, the Govt announces a HSR project of national importance… Consultation needs to avoid past errors but we KNOW what the future can look like & it’s pretty sweet.

I use a version of this when talking to lawyers about gen 'AI'. You should want more than vague marketing hype or anecdotal stories about "efficiencies" or improved practice. Instead I'm the one showing up with the studies and examples of why it's going to make you a bad lawyer if you're uncritical.

The response I got from @juliedabrusin.bsky.social's office when I asked, "what are you planning to do about this?" and "doesn't this undermine your HSR plan?" and "wont this undermine planned affordable housing development and environmental efforts?" was incredibly disappointing.

The problem with posting about 'AI' on LinkedIn, is that LinkedIn thinks I like 'AI' and I get gibberish like this "suggested" post. Sloppy metaphor aside, I can only imagine the client's response being, "Cool, is it going to lower my bill?"
