I'm back home after my West Coast adventure! I gotta admit that as an introvert and a person who is prone to anxiety and over-analyzing everything, I was worried I might not enjoy WorldCon. But it was actually great!

I am thrilled to share the absolutely GORGEOUS cover of my next MG novel, THE DELTA CODEX, with art by James Firnhaber.

Random vacation day! So far I've written 1K words (flirting and banter, woo!), walked & belly-rubbed Titan, waited in line at the new French bakery downtown, delivered pastries to my best friend & eaten my own delicious almond croissant while watching the fish leaping from the river.

Photo of Deva, wearing sunglasses and triumphantly holding up a delectable looking almond croissant, with the sunlit Kennebec river in the background.

ARCs for Houseof Dusk are here! At some point maybe I'll stop taking photos and figure out something fun and/or sensible to do with them! 😅

Back from a very brief but amazing trip to NYC with my mom! We stayed in the theater district and saw three shows: Moulin Rouge, SIX and &Juliet! They were all spectacular in different ways but &Juliet blew us both away. So many layers to the story, so FUNNY, so moving.

A selfie of Deva and her mom lit by the magical red lights of the stage, with a glimpse of the large glittering windmill behind them.

More ink swatches! This time it's all Troublemaker: Sea Glass, Ofon Channel Blue, Starry Night Blue, Petrichor, Copper Patina and Bantayan Turquoise. These are all making me want to do some underwater painting for MerMay!

Photo of six paper tabs with ink samples swatched onto them. The inks range from muted green-gray (Seaglass and Petrichor) to deep green-blue (Bantayan Turquoise and Ofon Channel Blue) to a dark twilight blue (Starry Night Blue) to a jade green with coppery sheen (Copper Patina).

My first David Bowie was Jareth, so it's got to be Within You for me (though I'm also partial to the Fame remix, Ashes to Ashes, Golden Years, and Space Oddity).

I am so thrilled and honored that A Game of Noctis won this year's Lupine Award for a MG or YA novel by a Maine author (or set in Maine). I'm so grateful to the committee, and to all the amazing Maine librarians who celebrated with me at this year's Reading Round Up!

Happy US Release Day to Wooing the Witch Queen by @stephanieburgis.bsky.social ! I couldn't resist doodling my version of Felix the nobleman-on-the-run (disguised as a dark wizard) & Saskia the so-called wicked sorceress. And yes, part of the wooing DOES involve fountain pens!

A digital sketch of a white woman with flowing, untamed black hair cautiously accepting a fountain pen offered to her by a handsome white man wearing a silver mask that reveals his soft smile. They are lightly haloed in gold against a parchment-colored background.

7. I love my dog Titan for his boldness, his weirdness, the way he curls up on the couch between us at the end of the day, the way he comes & asks for belly rubs every morning, the way he sings along with sirens, & most of all how he lives in the moment, to the fullest, & reminds me to do the same.

Close up photo of Titan, a golden husky mix dog with a brown nose and pale blue eyes. His chin is resting on the arm of a couch which probably means whoever was taking this photo had some delicious food in their other hand.

It's my birthday and my gift to all of you is one of my favorite weird photos of my goofy dog Titan in his element a few winters ago. (If you want to do something nice for me I'm always grateful when folks buy or review my books, or request them from their local library! 😘)

Photo of a golden husky mix with pale blue eyes lunging at a blue bone toy in the snow. His expression is focused, yet crazed, as if seizing the bone might yield both unfathomed delights and torments.

9 years ago my best friend and I fell in love with the GBBO & decided to make a princesstarta following Mary Berry's recipe for our Christmas Eve dinner. We've baked one every year since! She baked it solo during covid lockdown & I did one solo when she was sick, but it's much more fun together!

Two white women with brown hair (who have been mistaken for sisters but are actually best friends) smiling proudly as they display an enormous princesstarta cake with a green marzipan dome and swirly chocolate decorations. It looks like it probably took a long time to bake but was also a lot of fun.

Some friends and I are re-reading the Chronicles of Prydain over the winter. I'm halfway through The Book of Three now and enjoying it! It's interesting to me which bits I remember most clearly: Eilonwy's bauble, the gwythaints, wanting to give Taran a good shake for being so pig-headed...

Photo of a Dell Yearling edition of The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander, held up against a green wall. The cover is illustrated with a horned, skull-faced knight in a villainous red cloak riding a powerful black horse past a young male armed with a dagger that he probably doesn't know how to use but thinks makes him look like a cool hero rather than an Assistant Pig-Keeper.

Feeling a lot of feelings after reviewing page proofs for my next middle grade, A GAME OF NOCTIS. I wrote this book after abandoning a different project following a long and creatively-draining struggle. Thankfully NOCTIS wasn't a struggle (at least, not any more than normal for me!). (1/?)
