Almost a year later (took my first weaving class the 4 weeks of Feb) and my loom is almost totally setup. It just took a few hours! We are turning the apartment into a craft room. BEST DECISION EVER. #weaving #loom
8 shaft floor loom, J-Made. 2 sewing machines in the background.

I’m going to look into it when i don’t work full-time. The volunteer hours required to be a Master Gardener are no joke! Sorry, but I have too many hobbies right now! Too little time.

Yr 3. I think it’s going to bloom for the first time! The deer better stay away. 🙏🏼 I’m pretty sure this is slender leaf milkweed. I sowed a LOT of seeds in fall ‘23. The majority did not mature successfully. Or, honestly…I may have weeded them. Watching these plants grow this year has been exciting.

I’m SO EXCITED! I ordered wine cap mushroom spawn (and a blue oyster mushroom bucket) to grow in my garden!!! With killing the lawn and smothering it with arborist chips, this will hopefully really rejuvenate the soil and improve the clay structure. #gardening #mushrooms

I’ve decided that part of why I am so taken by cedar waxwings is because they are so apart of the background. They’re not eager to show off their beauty. I can hear them. They’re hanging out, often in our neighbor’s madrone. But I rarely ever see them, maybe once a year. #birds #nature

I just took our uvBeast flashlight outside at night…SO COOL. You’ve got to do it!!! #gardening #nature I bought the light after we bought a house that had prior dogs…best/worst purchase ever. But to see nature like that? A spider’s legs and belly glowed. Weird bright dots on petals…just do it.

Got rid of the front lawn last fall—with 3 #chipdrop deliveries and a lot of sweat. Just got 2 espalier apple trees in the ground with our new garden beds. This is a dream fulfilled at age 45, kids. 🥹🥰#getridofyourlawn #gardening

I love my neighbors. I really do. They both have more than an acre, I only have 1/3 acre. But I fight English Ivy and Himalayan Blackberry on either side. Oh—and shiny geranium. I JUST finished removing English Ivy from my big hill. I don’t want to do it AGAIN! 😭

The deer ate my wild gingers both times I planted them. Or something did. I usually blame the deer when there’s NOTHING left behind. It’s just such a cool plant. Maybe one day i’ll try again.

My neighbor in Alaska left his door open. I watched, wide-eyed, as a porcupine waddled in. I was like, “HELLO!!! Sir? SIR!!! If you can hear me, a PORCUPINE just went inside your house!” It was under his bed. Surprise!!!

Oh, I feel this. I try to just go with the flow. But. Having lost many of my new plants to deer or slugs over the last couple years…i am putting out slug beer traps and coyote urine granules—only things that have worked. I’ve tried everything because I don’t want to build a fence…yet! Good luck!

The #deer are here. It got my checker mallow on its first year’s bloom, and nibbled on my Pacific Waterleaf and Swamp Rose, too. Just…be patient!!! I #plantnatives for everyone, but just let them get established so we can share, buddy. One just walked by. I said, nooooo. Not yet!

are stable enough to walk on so we (I) can get down to the water. I can sit on a big rock and stick my feet in the water in the summer. Reminds me of our old property in Metalline Falls.

The (fired) landscaper used to blow all the leaves into the creek—against the law. Lots of chemical sprays to make it look clean. I threw all the fallen tree debris onto the rocks, left the leaves, threw a bit of chips, and have sown native seeds every fall. The result? Ducks!!! ❤️🥰🥲🤗 and rocks that

Beaver tracks, monkey flower, lupine, red osier dogwood, snowberry, slough sedge, rushes. None of this creekside flora was here 3 years ago. Just bare rock. I over-seeded the existing lawn with a native mix.

Every time I see one, I get quiet and think of so much lost potential on so many levels. I see them too often in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Probably weekly. 😢I hate them. And everything they stand for. I mean, the “crumple zone”? Do they want to kill other people? Seriously. 😐

Dev @dev-in-pnw.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
Stop destroying nature AND do more. Plant natives. Remove invasive plants/weeds. And for us, after a lot of education…we have begun supporting native mason bees harvested from the Willamette Valley. Cool. Glad we’re on the same page. I’m going out to my garden now. Less talk, more action.

Dev @dev-in-pnw.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
Right. Right. But again, climate change/new predators have put our native bees, like the blue orchard mason bee, at increased risk. Therefore, “just” planting natives still doesn’t adjust for the new predators like the Houdini fly. So. That’s why responsible mason bee keeping can help more.
020
Dev @dev-in-pnw.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
After attending 3 mason bee seminars, we finally installed 2 bee houses/bee blocks and put out cocoons. In another week we’ll bag them up and bring them inside to PROTECT them from predators like mites, wasps, and the Houdini fly. Responsible ownership of boxes improves survival by 60%. 👍

This is a tiny shoot of a red elderberry I planted last year after we cut down 2 burning bushes. I thought this was dead, after succumbing to the slugs. I am THRILLED to see it’s hanging on!Everyone says elderberries are easy to grow…I argue easier for slugs to eat. 😢 #plantnatives #gardening
