Almost a year later (took my first weaving class the 4 weeks of Feb) and my loom is almost totally setup. It just took a few hours! We are turning the apartment into a craft room. BEST DECISION EVER. #weaving #loom
8 shaft floor loom, J-Made. 2 sewing machines in the background.

Yr 3. I think it’s going to bloom for the first time! The deer better stay away. 🙏🏼 I’m pretty sure this is slender leaf milkweed. I sowed a LOT of seeds in fall ‘23. The majority did not mature successfully. Or, honestly…I may have weeded them. Watching these plants grow this year has been exciting.

Got rid of the front lawn last fall—with 3 #chipdrop deliveries and a lot of sweat. Just got 2 espalier apple trees in the ground with our new garden beds. This is a dream fulfilled at age 45, kids. 🥹🥰#getridofyourlawn #gardening

Maybe it’s just a paywall? But the sections just…. Do you see? I’ve seen abstracts with a paywall, but never partial access before.

Look at this adorable bee!!! What is it? We saw it last week on penstemon—lost it before we could get a picture. Saw it again today!!! Then saw 3 of them in the cascara.

The #deer are here. It got my checker mallow on its first year’s bloom, and nibbled on my Pacific Waterleaf and Swamp Rose, too. Just…be patient!!! I #plantnatives for everyone, but just let them get established so we can share, buddy. One just walked by. I said, nooooo. Not yet!

Beaver tracks, monkey flower, lupine, red osier dogwood, snowberry, slough sedge, rushes. None of this creekside flora was here 3 years ago. Just bare rock. I over-seeded the existing lawn with a native mix.

This is a tiny shoot of a red elderberry I planted last year after we cut down 2 burning bushes. I thought this was dead, after succumbing to the slugs. I am THRILLED to see it’s hanging on!Everyone says elderberries are easy to grow…I argue easier for slugs to eat. 😢 #plantnatives #gardening

First year of mason bee keeping. Mason bees are way better pollinators than honey bees, FYI. Just a couple more weeks before we bring them in to protect the cocoons from predators. I planted so many new plants for them!!! It’s almost a full house! #bees #pollinators 🐝 #nativeplants

What did you buy that was so expensive? Just curious because I went to a local native plant sale and bought all these…for just under $200. (I will add a crazy good deal, 26 trees for $21; $15/20 trees). Happy Arbor Day! Happy planting!!!

We made terrariums and my husband chose a very large Erlenmeyer flask. He had to use a narrow funnel for precise rocks placement and tweezers that were like…maybe ~12” long. Slow progress. But it’s so cool.

I was taught change it every 2 days. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Taught that their tongue literally wraps around the inside of their heads. If the food is funky, they can die within 6 hrs of eating from infection. I only focus on feeding them in the winter.

We finally pulled the trigger! We bought mason bee cocoons. Bought a whole set up…then WON another in the raffle!!! #bees #pollinators #nativeplants I already decided that since I will be focusing on creating my forever native garden, I’m gonna just buy starts for my edibles. And blueberry plants.
My hope for the world is to have someone like my husband to love—he’s just such a kind, fascinating, fun, talented person. I am so lucky. Oh—he’s holding a mason bee house that someone burned flowers and clouds on, then kindly donated said house to the Linn County Master Gardener’s program. Mason bee cocoons. Willamette Valley local. About to go in the veggie drawerMason bee houses, bee blocks, tubes, emersion tube, cleaning toolWhy? Because mason bees are incredible! They’ll save this world if we let them.

There’s 30 #nativeplants in that bundle. Bareroot is the way to go. Cheaper, insanely easy/fast to plant, and a much higher success rate in my experience.

I canceled Amazon Prime. Now I am supporting small businesses more often. Walking around McMinnville today, found a fun tea shop down some stairs. They gifted me with a free measuring spoon as a thanks for switching from Amazon. #shoplocal #tea

🧶 alright, I made a lot of progress knitting my first cables. I just took out a lifeline and found a dropped stitch. Any tips for how to secure this thing and make it look good?

Do you see what I see? It took the help of YOU, my lively 🧶 knitting community on here! I got much needed encouragement, links, and helpful tips which allowed me to fully understand what I needed to do so I could interpret the directions. I put in another lifeline. My FIRST CABLES are burgeoning!

Here it is. The 3-st LPC has a misprint (i think) in the stitch glossary. I color coded it orange to make it easier to read. I have no clue what i did. 4th time’s the charm. But not today.

🧶 I’m so flabbergasted. This is my third time (over years) trying to get this sweater made. My first cables. I have somehow gone from 28 stitches to 33 when doing my first row of cables. I swear, 3 times is enough to make me feel like can’t do this. It’s just so pretty! I need to take a moment 😢 😩
All the knitting work I did today…14 rows.
A cool sweater with huge cables and a big hood

This is a 2019 Sweet P Riesling, but I just drank an ‘81 pinot noir and an’85 riesling Hidden Springs wine, shared by a generous man during his presentation…the oldest wines I’ve ever had. Feeling the history and love this morning. ❤️ Brooks is the BEST.

I may be making a big mistake by jumping into “intermediate level” when I’m a complete novice. But watching my husband teach himself, I know that slow and methodical gets the job done. It’s a life lesson in patience. Buying muslin today for practice. Already bought cloth for the other pair.

Almost done with this great book. Realizing that as annoying it is, always being cold, when the hot days come I won’t be able to enjoy these kinds of moments. Relaxing in a hot bath is such great therapy for the body and mind. Oh! And check out the bookmark! Handwoven! #tea #books
A picture from a hot bath, Animal Vegetable Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver, and tea in a mug handmade by a lady I didn’t know, but lives in my hometown. I didn’t need this mug, but it’s now my “daytime tea” mug. Just so I can create a need so I could support my dying hometown financially.

Omg. This tea drawer is out of hand. And we have an overflow drawer, but way more organized because they’re unopened boxes. But it smells SO GOOD when I open it. The new homemade loose leaf bags locally grown?! Just magic. #tea
Tea. Loose leaf. Bags. Boxes of bags. All tge things. Such a mess.

And just like that, my loom is “dressed?” Is that the correct term? And my very first plain weave is started. You can really see my improvement on the edging as I went along! I’m so excited to be learning this skill!!! #weaving #fibrearts
