I fucked up big time from a budgeting perspective by suggesting a road trip instead of our annual camping trip. Camping trip: ~ $250 Road Trip: already over $1200 with just lodging and transpo (Half that is a car rental. Not interested in breaking down in a 25 yo car out in the middle of nowhere)

I think I've figured out why replying "Stop" to political texts doesn't do anything. They reply, "You will no longer receive messages from this number" WHICH IS NOT THE SAME AS, "You will no longer receive messages TO this number." So they just change the number they text from and keep sending.

I've been wanting to make one of these for a while now due to now yearly wildfire smoke. In a little over an hour and running on the lowest fan setting, the indoor air quality has greatly improved. I bought cheap filters. You don't need to worry about MERV ratings like the graphic suggests.
A box fan with a circular cardboard shroud set on top of 4 furnace filters, taped together using clear packaging tape.A graph showing indoor air quality readings from a particulate sensor that spikes when the smoke rolled in, stays steady for a number of hours, and then dives down near zero after about an hour of the filter fan runningThe 1085 Filtrete furnace filters i bought from Lowe's, 20 by 25 by 1 inch. Every time a storm blows in, we have to worry about power being cut off. Michigan has one of the worst rankings for utility reliability in the US. Accountability legislation went nowhere. But $$$ did go to our politicians. Let's get DTE and Consumers out of MI politics. MopUpMichigan.org
Michigan Utility Reliability Performance Worse Than Ever, New CUB Report Finds
September 5, 2025Michigan electric utilities take longer to restore power to customers following outages than utilities in any other state, while also performing poorly on most other metrics related to reliability, affordability and the environment, according to this year’s edition of the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) of Michigan’s annual Utility Performance Report.

Michigan utilities ranked 51st out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia in their performance on the Customer Average Interruption Duration Index (CAIDI), a measure of average power restoration time. They also ranked 50th on the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), a measure of total outage duration for each customer served, with only Maine utilities performing worse on that metric. The report’s rankings are based on U.S. Energy Information Administration data primarily drawn from 2023, the year with the most recent data available for most metrics.

On average, in Michigan it took about 12 hours to restore power following an outage in 2023, over twice as long as any other neighboring state. The second-worst state in the country was Maine, averaging over nine hours to restore power. But in Indiana, average power restoration time was over five hours, and in Ohio under five.

Unable to reply, so I'm quote posting... It seems like there's a common misconception that homes build wealth because of appreciation, and while that's true in some cases, the real reason is more about building equity (accomplished by decreasing mortgage debt and/or improving the property.)
