I understand what koide meant in that one thing from the beginning. this is not a typical yuri. it's about fumbling through the first time you're actually discovering yourself. for both of them. things are left unsaid and unresolved and mari is clearly not entirely satisfied with whatever laras decision is. but they'll both figure it out. its no archetypal "true love" but its their love

and its all so earnestly delivered. I think a big thing here is that it pointedly is not a parody. the majority of its comedy does not “riff on the genre”, its its own thing, with the exception of their explanation for the mc’s exile being that hes annoying to be around and deserved it (awesome)

i am such a sucker for the kind of “evil guy mellowing out from raising a baby” thing but it’s especially good here because in most instances of this its unwilling or foisted upon them. titular clevatess saved this guy on a whim and it affected his evil self in ways he never expected. thats awesome
