77 years ago today the GDR (German Democratic Republic) was established. I highly recommend reading "Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism" by Kristen Ghodsee or "A Socialist Defector" by Victor Grossman to learn more about what was lost when the Socialist GDR was dissolved.

Really enjoying my first read-through of "Oil!" by Upton Sinclair.

“Theoretically, it was possible to bring about the change from Capitalism to Socialism by peaceful, one-step-at-a-time methods; anyone could lay out the steps, but when you came to take the first one, you confronted the fact that the capitalists didn’t want to be evolved into socialism, and wouldn’t let you take any step." - Upton Sinclair, "Oil!"

I just released a new EP of original songs (+1 Ramones cover). The songs reference leftist texts and revolutionaries like Lenin and Parenti, plus activists like Dean Reed and Phil Ochs, with musings on the current state. Reading "Oil!" by Upton Sinclair (1926) and it lays out plainly America's plan from the start to destroy #socialism.

"Mr. Irving expressed the view that what was happening in Russia was a great social experiment. Could a government of the working-class succeed? Was democracy in industry a possibility, or only a fanatic’s dream? We ought to send disinterested people, experts of all sorts into Russia, to watch what was happening and report it. Instead of that, we were helping France and Britain to starve the Russians out; we were compelling them to spend all their energies resisting our armies, and those which we subsidized; we were making it impossible for the experiment to succeed, and so, of course, its failure would prove nothing."

The Engels take on Democratic Socialists is worth noting. #DSA www.marxists.org/archive/marx...

24.3 Democratic Socialists
Finally, the third category consists of democratic socialists who favor some of
the same measures the communists advocate, as described in Question 18, not
as part of the transition to communism, however, but as measures which they
believe will be sufficient to abolish the misery and evils of present-day society.
These democratic socialists are either proletarians who are not yet sufficiently
clear about the conditions of the liberation of their class, or they are repre-
sentatives of the petty bourgeoisie, a class which, prior to the achievement of
democracy and the socialist measures to which it gives rise, has many interests
in common with the proletariat.
It follows that, in moments of action, the communists will have to come to an
understanding with these democratic socialists, and in general to follow as far
as possible a common policy with them — provided that these socialists do not
enter into the service of the ruling bourgeoisie and attack the communists.
It is clear that this form of co-operation in action does not exclude the discussion
of differences.

My problem with DSA — reforming the Democratic Party is a dead end. I get the urge, but we need to actually do the work to build a third party. Why not @greenpartyus.bsky.social? www.cagreens.org/platform

I get the DSA position, but firmly believe reforming the DNC is a dead end. The priority should be to break the two-party system and build a real leftist alternative. The Greens have a solid socialist platform and they're on the ballot, so why not build that party like other countries have done? I have no interest in infiltrating a party that oscillates between alt-right and tepid center-left. IMO we should end the policy lurch and I'll be putting my energy into that.
