If there's one thing I've learned from parking my motorcycle, it's that you always, always need to park at the very outside of the space, because car brains feel the need to zoom in without actually looking. And then the drivers get mad because it's not a car.

You can be pretty much guaranteed that any modern bike is going to have bolts ranging from M3 to M8 for nearly everything. Wouldn't hurt to buy a variety pack in a couple of different lengths. They come in handy!

Halfway through the new Carrie series, and it's fine. People who insist that movie adaptations need to slavishly adhere to every last plot point of the book that inspired it confuse me. I use The Expanse as an example. The streaming series is better than the book series.

Ha! The beginning of my end was asking what happens to babies they die without being baptized, being told they go to purgatory, then asking where in the Bible purgatory is mentioned so I could look it up, which resulted in the instructor telling me to stop asking questions so we could move on.

Not super fond of the smoke detector in our bedroom going haywire at 1:30am. And since it's wired in and all the bedrooms are at the same end of the house, it means 4 alarms within fifteen feet of each other were going off.

They've also taught me that 95% of home appliance models from that era are basically just re-skinned versions of the same machine under the sheet metal, regardless of the brand. So aside from things like cracked fridge crisper drawers, it's trivial to get replacement parts.

Right? Our oldest appliance is a microwave we got as a wedding gift in 1992. It's still going! All of our other appliances are from when we bought our house in 1995, except our dishwasher. Which we've replaced three times since our first one in 1999. Ugh.

I've seen three people post about broken new-ish appliances today, and it just increases my determination to never, ever get rid of our 1995 refrigerator, washer, and dryer that can all be fixed with $12 in parts and a youtube video.

Canada is refusing to issue ISBNs to books primarily generated with AI. This illustrates both the urgency of the problem of the growing flood of slop books, and also the toothlessness of addressing it on the honor system without there also being consequences for lying
